Committee for Industrial Organization founded by eight unions affiliated with the American Federation of Labor. The eight want more focus on organizing mass production industry workers - 1935

And this: November 9, 1935 - The Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) was formed to expand industrial unionism. Key members of the CIO included the Steelworkers, Auto Workers and Textile Workers. The CIO merged with the American Federation of Labor (AFL) in 1955 to form the AFL-CIO.
