One Big Union
The great grandfather of all modern unions, the Industrial Workers of the World, IWW, actually still exists and still organizes workplaces!

http://www.iww.org/

Currently, they are trying to organize unions at Starbucks, Target, and Freshdirect in NYC.

2. My grandparents were members of an iww group in Aurora.
They had a falling out with their organizers from Chicago however and disbanded. She said they came out to collect her unit's dues so they had a party for the local members with the money and disbanded.

3. I was a member of the IWW in the early '90's...
I still have my little red book somewhere. I held dual membership in AFSCME and IWW.

4. Thanks, ben.
My dad was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. My brother is still a member. Thanks for the link. I ordered two T-shirts. I just had to have that cat.

5. Hell yeah.
I've been fiddling with the idea of trying to organize out here....I am a lifelong resident of Wyoming, and you oughtta see the number of mineral extraction operations going on...it's insane. I am a wellsite geologist not in business for myself, mainly because I can't afford to bond myself for the $2 million the Wyoming Oil and Gas Commission requires. So I work for a reputable international service company and make decent scratch, but it's still peanuts compared to what all the other players in the oil/gas bid'ness are taking in. Plus, I know a lot of the "uneducated" workers...roughnecks, truckers, etc....could use some help and representation. How about it, anyone else up for trying to come together?
