Elliott Co. in Jeannette and unions representing about 300 of its workers on Friday reached an agreement on a tentative contract that could end a labor dispute that has lingered for more than three years.

United Steelworkers members will meet at 11 a.m. today at the American Legion Post in Jeannette to explain details of the agreement, said Mark Zyvith, president of USW Local 1145-0, which represents 275 production and maintenance workers. A contract vote is slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the union hall on Lowry Avenue in Jeannette.

The two sides met Tuesday, but they were unable to resolve their differences.

"We were able to make some movement. It was enough of a change to take it (the proposal) back (to the members) for a vote," Zyvith said yesterday of the talks.

Joyce Shaffer, president of USW Local 1145-2380, which represents 23 office and clerical personnel, declined to predict whether members will approve the three-year offer. She declined to provide details of the agreement.

The contract would replace a pact that expired in June 2004.
