Any little known places, minitrips, eateries, or inside info on south IRE?
I'm taking a two week trip to Ireland although I'm only visiting the southern half or so. Has anyone been/lived there and have any suggestions of places to go that are off the beaten bath or are just plain awesome? We'll be definately visiting Dublin, Kilkenny, Cashel, Kinsale, Kenmare, The Ring of Kerry, Dingle (and peninsula), the Aran Islands, and Galway. Hopefully that helps somewhat. thanks so much, I wish I could take you all along :hi:

1. Here's a couple
of ideas.

Go to Bantry and visit the Earl of Bantry's house. He may be practicing trombone in the ballroom cause he plays with the local jazz band.

Prepare not to sleep in Dublin. We were there for 3 days and got 8 hrs sleep the whole time.

Baltimore is a lovely little town, we ate fresh lobsters and oysters there.

However, I would suggest that you're trying to see way too much in too short a time. The pace in Ireland is a lot slower than most Americans are used to. So, spend a few days in Dublin, go down to Cork and stay in Kinsale, and then up toward Bantry. The distances on the map may not be all that far, but the roads are mostly two lanes, people drive a little slower in the country and you have to be careful of the sheep and cattle.

Take some time, enjoy the pace and don't try to see so much.

2. thanks!
yeah we are definitely going to play it bye ear and see how quickly we want to move. Neither of us enjoy packing in tons of tourist sites, so flexibility is definitely good. Unfortunately we can't rent a car so driving is out :(. I appreciate the tips though I'll definitely bring them along. :hi:

3. Are you bicycling or on buses?
I've never done either when I was there but it's probably fun.

You'll find some good stout - the bitter is really pretty awful, but the bread and cheese is great.
