Anybody checked out Trip Advisor's blog yet?
I have to admit that Trip Advisor has become one of my favorite places on the net next to DU. I can't go anywhere until I've checked out the hotel or B & B, restaurants, etc there. I've also been posting there quite a bit this last year.

They've added a blog where they are posting the stuff that they can't post in the regular website. Some of these are CLASSIC!

2. Tell me about it...
I can't imagine life without tripadvisor. It has saved me from many a disastrous hotel choice.

3. Trip Advisor is pretty good, but take some of the hotel
recs with a grain of salt. Eg. in Cannes, they rec'd a hotel as #6 favorite. We stayed there mainly because other places were booked (Conference week) the room sucked.

Same with our trip to Malta, many people complained about the hotel being loud, it had limestone floors. We found it to be absolutely wonderful and plan on going back.

So, caveat emptor, even on Trip Advisor. :o

6. Yeah, I'll second that...
I went to Trip Advisor to check the reviews on the hotels I was going to be staying in while I was in the UK and Europe and one or two had shocking reviews. When I was there they weren't bad at all and I'm pretty fussy about things like noise and stuff like that...

7. Oh definitely.
Some of the reviews can be OVERLY picky.

Some aren't picky enough. I try to see what they're complaining about and see if it would ruin it for me.

Too loud? Depends. I'm an incredibly heavy sleeper. Stuff that would bug the crap out of other people might not even cause a blip on my radar.

Snotty deskclerks? Now, that's a different story. Shitty food? Deal breaker.

5. I've checked it out, too, though didn't know about the blog.
If I'm going somewhere new, I'll go there just for names of hotels that I will then google, hoping for an original website to learn more.
