Cancer Treatment Centers of America
Anyone here with any experience with them? I have scans coming up on Feb. 6 for the thymoma business and if there is any change I'm looking for alternatives to UNC and Duke.

1. Have good insurance?
I don't know anybody personally who has been there, but the few times I've heard people online sharing their experiences, they seemed very positive. Far, far more often, though, is the cancer patient I've known of that sought information, but found out their insurance wouldn't pay for it :(

Do you know anything about Wake Forest? It might not be too far from home. It's listed as one of the top 50 cancer hospitals by US News and World Report

How are you?? Hope you are feeling well and that all is well otherwise

2. Thanks for the reply & link, LeighAnn.
Incredibly, my insurance does cover CTCA, yet won't cover a local holistic MD who I really wanted to see for my overall health.

I'm doing well right now. Breast recon has healed, will go for first inflation in 2 weeks. Just getting worked up for those looming scans. Thank you so much for asking!

3. I've heard very good things about this place, pecwae.
I hope you'll be able to check them out and I'll be interested to hear what you think. As always, you're in my thoughts and I hope all is well with you. Hope you continue to feel better and better with each passing day.

4. How about you, fh?
How do you fare? You know, of all the cancer support groups I've been involved with online this one has the most caring posters ever! So many offers of private support, so many to truly listen. It may be small, but one can feel the love and compassion for others come through in all the posts.

5. I'm actually doing pretty well, thanks so much for asking.
I think the initial shock of "I've got cancer" has officially subsided. I've adjusted my diet, begun to exercise again and most of all, try to enjoy the good things in life. I have a good team of doctors now. I'm in a wellness group at my local Gilda's Club, and that has been very helpful for me.

And I agree with you - this is an awesome cancer support group here on DU! I belong to a couple of others but this is by far my favorite. I've received excellent advice and support here, and of course DUers are the greatest people on the 'net! :D

Lots of hugs to you, my friend. You're always here with a smile, a hug and a kind word.

6. I've not had personal experience w/ CTCA, but a friend of mine
went there when no more help was offered, he survived his cancer because of them. Good luck and I hope you find the treatment that works best for you.

7. Met a woman at chemo who
said that CTCA gave saved her, gave her hope and a diet plan that she wasn't getting from local docs. They paid for her flight to see them. She had stage 4 BC. One year after mastectomy they found cancer on her liver, her kidney, her lung, and in her bones. She believes that CTCA (mainly the diet) is responsible for her recent clear scan. She's currently doing a round of what she calls chemo-lite that was recommended but is not supervised by CTCA.

That's an encouraging story. While I'm hoping I won't need them this is good to know.

11. Thank you for remembering LeighAnn
I'm getting worked up. I always tell myself I won't and always end up doing the same thing. I have 2 CTs and a PET then see the doctor for results the same day. At least I won't have days to wait for results. I'll be extremely happy if the scans just reveal no change.

I appreciate your prayers and thoughts.

16. a friend of mine received treatment
for prostate cancer at CTCA and was extremely pleased with the treatment, the people at CTCA, everything about it. I don't know much about it other than that, but he had a really positive experience.

17. Thanks for your post
So far I haven't heard anyone say they've had a negative experience. Right now I thankfully don't need CTCA, but if I ever have to go down this road again I'm using their services.
