His silence mistaken, deaf man attacked

FORT WORTH -- A store cashier struck a deaf customer in the head with a crowbar after he mistook the man's silence for rudeness and disrespect, police said.

The cashier, Ricky Benard Young, 20, faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The customer, Cody Goodnight, 31, suffered "a large knot" on his head during the incident, which occurred Saturday at the Family Dollar Store at 4117 E. Lancaster Ave.

"I can't believe someone would hit him for not speaking," said Goodnight's mother, Kay Goodnight. "When you're deaf, you don't make a point of starting conversations with people."

1. That young man is dangerous

It's not just an issue of being deaf or not. If that cashier thinks that he can hit someone with a crowbar because of "rudeness and disprespect", then he needs to be locked away.

2. The kid needs to learn some manners while locked away in a state prison.

I bet then he will learn to be more respectful of others.

3. ok, he sounds insane. But that's one of the few things I don't like about being Deaf

I don't usually brag, but I am a very nice person, and hate this aspect. I have a friend/co-worker, who thought I was a rude bitch, because he would say hi to me and thought I was ignoring him.

Luckily I usually have my kids with me when I go to run errands. If someone talks to me they, usually my daughter will say, "hold on, my mommy can't hear". If I have a hard time reading their lips, she will tell me what they are saying.
