The Clinton campaign now claims she actually said "Rich people, God blessed us" on Falafel Bill O'Reilly's show. Blessed, as in B-L-E-S-S-E-D, not bless.

In the abstract my vote is that they're lying, but you should decide this one for yourself.

It is stupid to try to parse this and spin it. No way she said "Blessed".

Just say you were being sarcastic for christ sake stop being afraid of the sound bite spin.

It was very clear both to O'Reilly, the viewers and to anyone who takes the time to read the transcript that it was an obvious snark.

She was defending her proposed tax hike on rich people like herself and O'Reilly that it was necessary "to make sure our country and our blessings continue to the next generation."

Frankly, anyone who can't see it doesn't want to. Unfortunately for them, viewers aren't generally so obtuse.

DU'ers in our own way have no room to denigrate "low information voters".

But now I see it, I don't know what the hell she meant. She didn't sound sarcastic to me. I'd like to see more of it.

I'd be VERY interested to see the list of questions he asked them if he has in fact interviewed them.

Sounds to me that she clearly says "God bless us...". But I think that was in a larger context that we (rich people) continue this for the country and next generation. I think her point was "we were blessed. now we need to make sure the rest of the country and future generations are equally blessed". Unfortunately, her actual words makes it sound rather narrow and somewhat selfish.

As an Obama fan who is sick of the media distortions of our candidates words, I can't and won't hold this against Hillary.

I couldn't put into words -- at least this late at night -- what my interpretation was of the statement, but you hit the nail on the head. :hugs: Now best to my candidate, Hillary Clinton and to yours, Barack Obama!

The point is how her campaign responded to it - with a blatant and easily disprovable lie. Once again, Team Clinton makes her look worse than she deserves.

Of course, I'm not shedding any tears over any bad karma that comes her way either... after she rode "bittergate" for all it was worth, she deserves to be hounded a little for such an "elitist" statement, IMHO.

There was nothing wrong with that. She is rich and so is O'Reilly and that's what she was saying. The theme of the whole interview was Billo saying how rich they both were and asking how much was she going to raise his taxes. She finally said in effect - yes we are both rich and God bless us - because by paying a fair share of taxes we can make things better for the middle class who are struggling and that will be good for America.

I guess her Comm Dir (Wolfson) heard an -ed at the end of "bless". Who cares? Neither statement is a problem in context. Although the "blessed" version doesn't make as much sense syntactically.

Personally, i can't stand the woman. But let's just stick to gender neutral terms like "lying sack of shit". It fits her much better, anyway.

I don't mind saying. I would love to see Obama do so well up against one of those guys, but he isn't the fast over-talker that you have to be to do it. In any case, a slight misstatement is not so bad (though it really does sound bad!).

I hate to say it, but the campaign is lying. She clearly says, "God bless us." That being said, I believe that people are actually either misunderstanding or misinterpreting her remarks. It's pretty clear to me that she was using the term humorously. Not with malice or malcontent toward another class of folks. Honestly, some of you anti-Clinton folks should be more realistic. I must restate however that Senator Clinton clearly says, "God bless us..." with humor.

but she didn't. I expected the sentence to end with ' and everyone deserves the opportunities we've had'. I was surprised when it didn't. What she said was pure elitism...we're rich and we deserve it.

Why the spin from her campaign when we can clearly hear what she said? Why not just say it was a poor choice of words and what she meant was .

Let's wait and see if the Obama campaign beats her blatantly elitist statement to death. My money says he won't allow it.

I've never supported Hillary the warmonger, but honestly I've never seen so much stupidity on this board before. O'Reilly was whining about being taxed more because he's rich, and she started mocking his rich person's whine, saying "oh us rich people we deserve so much we have it so hard we only think of ourselves . . . "

I mean, come on, this is the stupidest smear ever. JUST BECAUSE she couldn't use the SARCASM tag during an interview doesn't mean you can't use your brains and add it. fuck, is our discourse doomed to be this stupid for ever?

She went into immediate pander mode. It wasn't because she really thinks "god bless us rich people" - it was that she immediately and reflexively started to agree and co opt someone's aggrieved whine, and about halfway into it - right around the word "deserve" - she realized what she was saying and tried to get out of it.

You can see the deer-in-the-headlights, "Oh, shit" moment pretty clearly, as she tries to talk herself out of what she just realized she stepped in.

Again, I don't think she was consciously rubbing elbows with falafel-man, but she wasn't being sarcastic either.

And, again, the point is that her guy LIED about what she actually said on the conference call. He didn't defend what she said as sarcasm aimed at Bill-o, he tried to spin it as something else.

to know what she was talking about. It's just typical to try and spin that though. My goodness, what is the matter with some of Hillary's supporters?
