I mean technically, how does one "download" a YouTube video on to a computer?

but if one does find a way, they should do it. How else was this attained for re-editing?

my old computer didn't have it so I didn't know, but the new one dies and i've just started learning how to do that.... on mine at least you right click and the bottom option is save to real player. i'm sure if you have the flash program (maker, not just player) then you can do it there as well...

Then install "Download Helper."

That will save the video in a .flv format. There are some media players that recognize it, though I haven't played around with it much. But at least it will be saved on your hard drive.

have you read Susan Sontag's essay "Fascinating Fascism" on Riefenstahl? Walter Benjamin wrote a more legendary piece called "The work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction" too. heady stuff the both of them.

the Walter Benjamin piece sounds interesting. (I'm kinda Sontaged out for a while :) ).

Her's is a hell of a read, lives us to its name and then some. Benjamin's essay is widely considered one of the most important philosophical, aesthetic, and moral works of our epoch.
