Hat Tip to : http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/13/rumsfeld-on-2006-election_n_101537.html

RUMSFELD: "That's what I was just going to say. This President's pretty much a victim of success. We haven't had an attack in five years. The perception of the threat is so low in this society that it's not surprising that the behavior pattern reflects a low threat assessment. The same thing's in Europe, there's a low threat perception. The correction for that, I suppose, is an attack. And when that happens, then everyone gets energized for another period"

1. Boo!
The reason we haven't had an attack in five years is because they haven't done it again. It was internal for Empire.

Rumsfeld should be in jail for his lies about 911 and Iraq.

2. And this was after Rumsfeld
Edited on Wed May-14-08 12:02 AM by ashling
was giving Bush his daily briefing.
"Mr. President, 3 Brazillian soldiers were killed in Iraq yesterday."
Bush's staff was amazed as he buried his face in his hands at this news.
Then he looked up and said:
"How many is in a brazillion?"

4. I like Rummy's logic.
We need another terrorist attack an Bush's watch in order to let everybody know that only the GOP can protect them from terrorist attacks, so then people will get serious and vote Republican. Uh..yeah.

5. I doubt it. He seems to be pretty much confident that 9/11 was singular
& was likely to happen again for a long time. They all realized that fact but took advantage of the fear & media hype for political & financial gain.

6. What are the chances that a "correction" will occur
if the electorate votes the wrong way in November (ie a democrat wins the presidency)?

10. in fact
in fact, if a democrat wins, which is likely, the outgoing neocons will even arrange for another event. They don't have to own the administration to do dirty work.

7. Using " correction" is an interesting choice of words.
That sums up the mindset of this administration. Keep people in fear. Fear is their best asset because it causes many people to vote Republican by default because of the uncertainty of another terrorist attack.

I've got a better idea Donald Rumdum: Why don't we keep our fuckin' noses out of other countries' business. We act like it's our birthright to invade countries that have resources that we need and control those resources. And we wonder why there are terrorist groups who want to do harm to our country and its people?

To all of you insecure war mongers who may be trolling this site: There will be a time when the U.S. is no longer the economic and military superpower. Another country that wants something that we have will come in and blow up our cities and kill our citizens because they're in the way of what this country wants. How do you think we would respond? Why don't you think the Iraqis aren't doing this right now?

11. Oh, poor Bush
:nopity:

He's not a victim of success. He's a victim of overstating the threat.

or are those not "American interests" as Lynne Cheney famously said on the Daily Show?
