2. Well, at least Andrea Mitchell TRIED. You can lead Pat to the 21st century or even...
...the latter part of the 20th century, but you can't make him live in that world unless he wants to.

  And he doesn't.

7. That's arguable. However, recall that above all others in the Bush administration, he...
...was the most honest (both during his tenure and after he left the position) about where the economy was headed and several other points, like the financial impact of the war on the economy, than anyone else.

I am reluctant to blame Greenspan for the destruction of the middle class. I just haven't seen compelling evidence to adopt the accusation as fact. I generally believe him to be a tool, misused. At worst, an economist who mad inelegant, oversimplified decisions in a time when finance had become even more complex than he was accustomed to.

But if Greenspan is in the army of those who destroyed the middle class, he is a foot soldier or sargeant at best.

9. i'll make a few brief points
Edited on Thu May-15-08 10:10 AM by barnel
- he cautioned against using surpluses to pay down the debt in 2000

- he then promptly advocated huge tax cuts for the super rich

- he deliberatly created the housing bubble, urging people to get ARMS near the end

- he's advocated every aspect of globalism

- he even bluntly stated we need immigration to reduce wages in tech 'for more equality' hmmmm, seems to have overlooked wall street banker salaries

that WV voters voting on race are no more racist than philadelphia blacks voting for obama

(i think people should vote on qualifications, period)

the idea that all whites have had it better, is bull. a lot of WV people havent had it much better (admitedly i've never been beyond a WV airport)

the woman in that video, is andrea mitchell, her husband? ALLAN GREENSPAN arguably, there isnt a more elitist couple in the whole world

6. Thats exactly what Pat missed and hope people don't make the same mistake...
WV Whites voted on race when asked. Phillie blacks voted on issues and said race isn't a deciding factor for them when asked. PERIOD.

Blacks have been voting for white Presidents for soo long over the issues I don't think that would suddenly change over night just bc Obama is on the ticket. Most of us black folks don't vote against our best interest. I think we've had plenty of time to learn who the asshole is regardless of skin color even as we spot an Uncle Tom bastard.

8. About the WV voters being no more racist than Philly blacks:
It's a comparison which breaks down under closer inspection because the blacks in Philadelphia, of course, have been voting for white candidates since they received the right to do so and, at worst, vote for Obama soley because of the color of his skin. The worst one can accuse them of is that.

The WV voters in question have never and will never vote for an African-American.

The distinction is important. Pat's comparison doesn't stand up to any scrutiny.

15. About the WV vs. Philly vote
one of buchanan's dissenters were spot on when s/he said it was a negative vs. positive vote. Some in WV voted not for hillary, but AGAINST Obama. Some of the black voters in Philly (and elsewhere, for that matter), voted FOR Obama, not AGAINST the white candidate. There is a BIG difference.

11. the Key is IOWA! If whites in Iowa know a good thing when they see it,
why can't blacks in Philly? Obama has gotten white votes, black votes, Hispanic votes, Asian votes, Native American votes. Clinton lost the black vote, not because she isn't a good candidate or even that she injected race into it. Blacks who voted overwhelmingly for her husband didn't vote for Obama simply because he was black. They saw a better candidate "just" like Iowa! WV, however could have voted for Clinton because she is a Clinton and when asked, because she is white. Let's be clear though... there is a narrow view when it comes to looking at issues in certain regions. Blacks have had to look at issues and the candidate. If they have been voting for whites for this many years and overwhelmingly they've voted Democratic then what makes anyone think that they can't see a candidate beyond race. This is the first time an African American has garnered so much of the white vote or black vote. Whites don't have as much experience as blacks do at voting for someone of a different race.

12. This is what conservatism gets you... Pat Buchanan. He wants everything to stay the same while the
world continues to change around him. It's mega doses of stupidity that have sent this country down the wrong track.

the real reason WV really voted for Hillary. Nobody does. The facts as we know them are that she has been in there night and day telling the voters that Obama is an elitist and doesn't care about poor people. Barack Obama didn't go there to campaign and try to debunk that, which he probably could have, and that probably has a lot to do with how the vote turned out. That's the point Andrea Mitchell, the wife of Alan Greenspan, made. And of course economists get labeled as elitists, for example by Hillary, because they know stuff about economics. Ignorance is Strength.

While many assume racism because of WV's demographic, there aren't any exit polls that show them saying "I voted against Obama because he's black," or "I would never vote for a black president." What we do have is a Clinton strategist saying, "blacks and eggheads are not enough," which is to imply that the majority of whites or uneducated people will deliberately NOT vote for a candidate who is favored by the blacks or educated people. It implies that because if it were not the case, then there would be no reason to criticize Obama's base. And furthermore we have Hillary saying (paraphrase because I forget the exact quote), "I have a broader base... hard working white voters, voters without college education," which implies the SAME THING. So there you have it. According to HILLARY CLINTON, the people of WV are racist.

I don't know if that's true at all. I sure hope not. I've never been to West Virginia and I won't speculate. But this same statement in several states has been the basis for Hillary Clinton's whole argument that Obama is unelectable despite being ahead of her in all these other primaries. And at the same time, she and her supporters denounce the argument that people who vote for her over Obama are racist. I feel for them, the people who support Hillary because of the positive things they believe about her. I did myself, until not so long ago. But I do NOT feel for Hillary wanting to have her cake and eat it too. SHE is the one who's been insulting her supporters, not Obama.
