1. Here's a twist on this concept.
My friend is staying in a moribund marriage, dead for decades, not for the sake of his children, who are both grown. It's because he has serious health issues, and he has no medical insurance, but his wife does. Now THAT'S how you cut down on the divorce.

:sarcasm:

2. Hey, marriages of desperation among straight people
Aren't NEARLY as scary as when committed gay people wed!

Stick it out honey, at least when he smacks you, you can afford to go to the emergency room with his insurance!

3. Hey, when gay marriage didn't exist as an option...
marriage for healthcare or lease status or citizenship happened all the time between gays and their straight friends.

I wouldn't want anyone to denigrate the generosity involved in those commitments.

6. Yeah, it's a crime that it has to happen, though.

7. So many crimes, so many kindnesses.
I'm remembering when my best friend, Dennis Meiners, married his roommate (they worked together at the Public Theatre) because she was Canadian and being hassled about staying. If she'd had to go, he would have gotten the apartment. But he married her and kept her here for as long as she needed.

But that's only one of the good, kind things he did while he was on this earth.
