This internal suspicionless Homeland Security checkpoint took place on Southern Arizona's SR86 near Mile Post 146 on January 8, 2008.

The location is over 40 miles North of the Southern Border on a highway that never intersects the border. Additional information is available at:

Is this is just the beginning of more check points deeper in America are we going to have to have our papers with us at all times soon

Its coming folks get ready
This is just a wee bit of taste of martial law and its conditioning

i believe in border protection but on the border

1. The guy did an excellent job.
There was nothing she could do. Might not work so well in about 5 months....

Fired up? Ready to go!

Thanks lovuian

4. I agree...
...it won't be too long before that kind of non-cooperation with authority in the U.S. will not be safe -- in fact, I'm not too sure it's such a safe thing to be doing even now.

3. I've got mixed feelings about this
on the one hand it's pretty funny and I think the border patrol needs to be on the border NOT 40 away from it...

on the other hand the guy was intentionally being a prick to the agent, and is lucky she wasn't too swift.
the constant repeating of "am I being detained" obviously rattled her because she knew this guy was looking to nail her for something, and she finally had enough and just wanted him to go away.

She would have been completely within her rights as a federal law enforcement officer to ask to see his drivers license or to tell him to answer the question, pull into the secondary check area or be arrested for obstruction.
Or to tell him if he wanted her badge number and the name of her supervisor he could pull over and she would come give it to him after she dealt with the traffic piled up behind him.

I'm glad this was recorded though.
I think stopping people and asking "are you a citizen" is fricken' stupid and is really just done to condition us. I can't think of any practical purpose.. like somebody is going to say "no, I'm and illegal immigrant that just crossed the border"?

It's right up there with "has anybody put anything in your bags without your knowledge".
I got asked that at an airport, and when I pointed out that if it was without my knowledge I wouldn't know they got very upset.

6. I disagree that he was being a prick
He was asking a valid question and she would not give him an answer. PLUS, we the taxpayers, are paying for the border patrol to tie up traffic and ask stupid questions 40 fucking miles from the border.

When I was growing up in the 50's/60's, I was told I lived in the land of the free.

I was lied to.

7. yes... you were lied to
this wasn't the 'land of the free' then and never has been.

Arguably you were less free in the 50s/60s; there just wasn't the internet or youtube or camcorders and cellphones for everybody to broadcast it.

That's not to say we aren't more free here than elsewhere... just that the 'total freedom' of America is a myth.
