5. Another early song by The Animals "Gonna Send You Back to Walker's (Point)"
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 05:07 PM by shain from kane
The Bush compound, formally Walker's Point, is the summer home of 41st President of the United States George H. W. Bush. Located near the Atlantic Ocean in southern Maine near the town of Kennebunkport, the property has been a family retreat for more than a century.

The estate was first purchased by St. Louis banker George H. Walker in the late 19th century, who built the mansion in 1903. The estate was later sold to his daughter Dorothy Walker Bush and her husband Prescott Bush, and has remained in the Bush family since.

BTW, ever see this rewrite of CSNY's OHIO ?

"" Vote Fraud in Ohio
by Mark Robinowitz

Lost ballots and Diebold's counting
We're finally on our own
This winter I hear Bush laughing
Vote Fraud in Ohio

Gotta get real ballots
Paperless taking us down
Should have been done long ago
Keep blacks from voting and
TV won't make a sound
Kerry won, but he said no.

Vote Fraud in Ohio
Vote Fraud in Florida
Vote Fraud in Nevada
Vote Fraud in Iowa
Vote Fraud New Mexico ...""

7. Thanks botany
I KNEW there was something I liked about you...

re: Pet Sounds....Good Vibrations is one of my pet sounds...the influence of the Beach Boys in our house was so strong that our son had God Only Knows... played for the traditional "first dance" at his wedding..

sigh..........

8. Did I ever tell you that you are my Fav?
Please don't tell others.

Sloop John B I can hear it as clear as a bell 1st grade ....

I remember seeing the Beach Boys in 1986 on HBO for the 4th of July
and being crushed just how bad their vocals were.

11. I love the song, but this is one of least favorite versions of it
The Sloop John B is a Caribbean drinking song telling the story of a drunken brawl.

My favorite version was done by Bud and Travis, a for the most part forgotten folk duo from the sixties. It's too bad few remember them. They were quite good together, even if they didn't like each other personally. The act broke up after the two came to blows one night arguing their artistic differences. Bud Dashiell died in the 1980s; Travis Edmondson, last I was aware, is still living in Arizona, where he grew up. He is paralyzed on one side of his body due to a stroke.

While most versions of the song, including the Beach Boys' rendition, is sung to a slow, lazy beat, Bud and Travis used an upbeat tempo. What the audience seems to experience listening to most versions of the song is the hangover. In the Bud and Travis version, the audience experiences the brawl.

I wish I could find the whole thing somewhere.

12. I watched Travis playing in bars
On his way down so may not have been the quality he had at the top, but I always liked the Kingston Trio version, that indeed made the BB youtube one look like they sleepwalked through it. I suppose the Trio used the B&T version as they were mentors to the Trio. There is more than I can share, but Travis was/is not a nice person.
