Ok, what does this have to do with politics? 1. I believe public policy ought to be based on reason and evidence, rather than faith. The evolution vs. creation debate is inherently political, though it may not necessarily break down along party lines. This goes to effect our educational policy, our national science policy, even our treatment of animals.

Second - this is just incredibly cool. An observation, leads to a prediction, more observation confirms it. A stunning, and new, victory for the theory of evolution, the idea that human beings are great apes, the importance and relevancy of the genome project, and the scientific method. If you can remember the details, this is a great anecdote to pull out of your pocket the next time somebody gets up in your grill about creationism.

3. You'll grow old and die waiting
"God did it" is the ultimate copout. It explains everything with no need to bother to learn science, math, or even how to read and write.

You have to admit it's an attractive option for people with absolutely no academic talent.

2. this why "they" need their private schools to keep science out of the ...
.... classroom.

But sadly the fundies will blow this off and move on with their movement.

4. I don';t have any problem
with private schools, fwiw. I see it as a civil right to be able to choose a school other than the state supplied one.

Otoh, creationism or it's bastard stepkid "intelligent design" is not SCIENCE. Period. it is not a scientific alternative to evolution, because it is not science in the first place, and thus should not be taught in science classes . period.

Even if creationism were CORRECT, that's still irrelevant to the fact that it isn't scientifically supported.

The issue isn't whether or not creationists are correct (that's a false road). It's whether their "theory" (and I use that word very loosely here) is a scientific one. It ISN"T and thus has no place in a science curriculum.

6. Has anyone told Scalia yet?
He and his friends should get off the Supreme Court! The man is so prejudice that he couldn't follow or allow that argument! He still supports Scientific Creationism. What a cretin.
