Instead of leaving a comment saying that Cenk is hurting Obama by saying these things, why not do something to help Obama win instead and share

And as always, make sure you make some use of (If We Share Them).

PS---Keep in mind that you can download the first hour of The Young Turks free every day through Itunes. Also, the show loops 24 hours a day at www.theyoungturks.com . Finally, there is great news for XM radio subscribers: The Young Turks will be on starting July 14th!

7. It bothers me more in the context of other recent things he's said and done
I'm just really nervous he'll turn into John Kerry of 2004 if he keeps it up.

And I'm not saying he will, I'm just saying I'm worried he might.

3. Well I understand what Obama did now.
Big.
Fucking.
Dissapointment.

I still have to vote for him, but....good grief...more weak Democrats. Ugh.

No wonder we fucking lose.

4. 3 out of 10 presidential elections
That's what the politics of weakness has got us in the last 40 years.

5. OK, I've found a problem with Cenk's slogan
Every time he says "We Are The Guardians Of Freedom", I hear Dire Straights in my head playing "We Are The Sultans Of Swing". :silly:

9. Did Cenk listen to Obama's explanation of why he voted the way he did? I'm starting to think that
CENK is no better than the other commentators who want to be controversial and thus possibly increase viewership. And, I don't know Cenk's background and am not going to take the time to look, but what makes him such an authority on how to run the Democratic Party or a campaign? (IHNB, I have already posted on your other sites)

10. Didn't Obama's explanation boil down to
"I was wrong, but I've already said I'll vote for this so now I have to - my bad?"

Even Obama stopped trying to defend this vote on anything but political grounds. And, like Cenk, I think he's wrong there, too.

11. No, not at all

Trust me, he's not trying to be "controversial", he's just being honest to his principles and viewers. If you watch him for any length of time you know that.

As for the what makes him an authority, I don't think that's the right framing. The right framing is that the so-called authorities (i.e. Dem strategists and campaign managers) of the last 2 presidential campaigns have failed miserably.

This is try #3, and since Cenk (like many of us) has paid a lot of attention (it's his job to know and comment on these issues after all) I think he has something valuable to say about mistakes to avoid, etc.

Now, you can disagree with his reasoning and that's fine. In fact, rather than attacking him personally by questioning his authority or suggesting that he's just going for ratings, why not break down his argument and explain why you disagree with it! I think that's the fair way to have a reasonable discussion.

PS---I wouldn't dismiss him as "just a talk show host". I mean sure, he was a lawyer but I don't think that's relevant. Honestly, what makes the average Democratic Strategist on TV an authority of anything other than losing elections and apparently giving bad advice much of the time judging by the results of our recent presidential history? NOTE: Yes, 2000 was stolen and you can make a case for 2004, but the point is it could and should have been blowouts in both cases, not close enough to steal.

20. Sorry. I'll go back and listen later. Watching his video came on the heels of reading the
never-ending negative ranters on here, and I've just about had it. Spending more time on other messageboards - but thanks to you and the posters in this thread - you made this place credible.

12. I'm sure Cenk listened to Obama's explanation --
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 12:02 PM by gateley
and I'm sure he listened to Feingold, Leahy, and all the others who voted against it. Maybe Cenk, like me, wonders why Obama ALONE from that particular group of Senators with whom he seems most closely aligned, voted in support of this bill.

I've found Cenk to be able to give a good overall synopsis of the topics he addresses.

EDIT because I made an EMBARRASSING misspelling of Leahy's name!

If there was an attack before the election, it would be BECAUSE of the current policies that Bush has implemented.
