1. Pelosi was right
Impeachment is off the table. Why is Conyers flip flopping?

2. Pelosi was Wrong
Regardless of Political Party or Political Aims, it is the Duty of Congress to provide a check to the Executive, and Judicial Branches. This Pres. and This Vice President are very Guilty of High Crimes and Misdemeanors, regardless of Party, or Politics, these two deserve impeachment.

5. I used to have a lot of respect for Conyers, then he said impeachment is off the table.
He is a traitor to the Constitution. He should apologize to the American People, and begin hearings immediately.

July 25, noon. I bet there will be a press conference.

6. "Conyers talks impeachment . . ." Talks . . .
that's all he is.

He's all talk.

Worthless piece of shit. How many years have the folks from Michigan sent him to the House to represent them as their protector of the Constitution and advocate for the people.

Now, at his moment of historic and abiding opportunity to make himself an American icon by standing up for all he's talked about all these years, what does he do? He puts his tail between his legs and starts whining.

He and the other Democratic leadership in the Congress--both the Senate and the House--have failed the test. They have seen the enemy and it is they. And those really rich guys.

The really scary part is how smooth the Bushbots were in totally eviscerating the so-called leadership of the Democratic Party (I was going to use emasculating, but I don't want to make Nancy feel left out). I am starting to get a hint of how a lot of Germans may have felt in the 30's. The fall of democracy against the rise of fascism.

Thank the goddess there are some Democrats who are still fighting. We need to send them reinforcements IMMEDIATELY. The situtation is dire.

I would really like to know how this putsch has been accomplished. Is it the result of naked greed? Or videotapes that tell interesting tales? Or deals struck in secret? Or families and friends threatened? Or is there a svengali in the DLC who transforms these former progressive Democrats into zombies?

I'm sure there'll be a movie mad someday that will give us some better glimpses into the methodology, but I'm pretty glad that I won't have to watch the part where the imperial forces totally clamp down on the dissidents and democrats in the homeland. After that, I don't even want to think about the rest.

9. I couldn't agree more.
This video has made me so angry. He is dodging these questions and not providing any information of any value whatsoever to these people who are obviously hungry for justice.

Bushco has nothing whatsoever to be concerned about when this is the opposition.

Conyers is worthless, this proves it. It makes me very sad to have to acknowledge this. I used to admire him greatly, before he had the chairmanship.

It makes me very sad and angry to watch this.

He keeps talking about "coming to a decision". The time to come to a decision is long past. Long past. It's too late now.

This is a disgrace.

12. If I was there I would have asked - "What OTHER side is there?"
He said more than a few times he was not going to make a decision until he hears both sides? How can there be another side to something that is illegal?

13. Am I mistaken???
Or are the likes of Conyers and Pelosi and Reid supposed to be puppets of those who PUT them in office? And IF that's a fair assessment of what's what, IS there a body of constituents bigger and louder than we, we who want definitive, decisive, and responsible action as is called out by the arrangement of checks and balances that were factored in when this nation was initially devised?
If we who are calling for these folks to carry out their sworn duties are not being heeded, then I'd like some evidence that there's a larger group arguing to NOT take action. :dilemma:

11. The resolution Conyers is worried about in the video, H Res 362 on Iran...
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 07:02 AM by Waiting For Everyman
First, thank you for posting these Vets for Peace videos, I & II.

Second, I think you're right Voice for Peace.

I was curious what Conyers was concerned about that might influence his decision on impeachment, so I searched it.

http://www.peacecandidates.com/discuss/906/house_set_to_vote_on_iran_war_resol

http://stopaipac.org/iranresolution.htm

YouTube video:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=I3G_S-LyA_Y

It does seem to in effect demand that Bush create a naval blockade of Iran, which is an act of war.

As of a day or so ago, there were 237 House co-sponsors and 32 in the Senate (Res. 580). Both are majorities, right there. Probably why... "Once it hits the floor, it's bound to 'pass like a hot knife through butter,' a staffer in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office told Chelsea Mozen of the nonprofit Just Foreign Policy." (quoted from link below)

http://www.truthout.org/article/congressional-resolution-demands-bush-act-iran

Is this an attempted repeat of the sneaky kind of maneuver Phil Gramm pulled in getting his "Enron Loophole" passed in Dec. 2000? This is set to be a no-amendment 20-minute vote... only recorded this time, so AIPAC knows who to dis. (And by the way, I'm not against Israel at all.) It's only a resolution but it could open the door for Bush to start something, and blame it on Congress.

Since those co-sponsor numbers above though, Rep. Wayne Gilchrest has withdrawn support, and so has Barney Frank, and Conyers mentioned in the video above, receiving a letter about it from Kucinich which he seemed to take seriously. It was sent to all members of the House.

I read the language referred to in the resolution and it looks bad to me too, am I wrong or missing something? If it's as bad as I think, could someone start a thread on it? (Sorry for being repetitive if there is one.) Here's a link to the text, paragraph (3) seems to be the concern:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.CON.RES.362:

Evidently, the wording for this resolution was pretty much dictated by AIPAC. Does Conyers suspect that Bush is using them as a shill to start a war he wants, I wonder? I got the impression that something about it seemed to connect it back to Bush's door in Conyer's mind.

the essence when you consider the thugs who are running this country into the ground and robbing us blind, still in absolute power.

17. This man is pathetic!
After watching these videos, it's painfully clear why nothing is being done. No wonder all these guys are pissed, this is one lame-ass excuse for a congressman. I hope someone posts the next meeting they have with Conyers, I'll bet he won't have a decision for them at that one either.

18. On June 21 2005
(Three years and eighteen days ago), I received an email from Congressman Conyers thanking me for signing the Downing Street Minutes. I was so proud of Conyers and was given such hope that something would happen to begin to rectify the mammoth crime committed on the people of this country as well as the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, that I printed and framed the email and hung it on my wall.

After listening to over two hours of political bullshit, I have taken it down. Something happened during those three years that has turned John Conyers into the typical doublespeak type of politician that I loathe. My feelings for him have turned from pride to embarrassment and shame.

19. ugh.
part one: regarding a question on impeachment and what is holding him back
conyers: "what's holding me back is that i haven't decided to do it. and nancy pelosi is not holding me back. when she said she took it off the table she took it off her table. she didn't take it off my table. the fact that you have described that there is something holding me back is merely the fact that i have never decided."
