Documentary on the events that led to the economic collapse of Argentina in 2001 which wiped out the middle class and raised the level of poverty to 57.5%. Central to the collapse was the implementation of neo-liberal policies which enabled the swindle of billions of dollars by foreign banks and corporations. Many of Argentina's assets and resources were shamefully plundered. Its financial system was even used for money laundering by Citibank, Credit Suisse, and JP Morgan. The net result was massive wealth transfers and the impoverishment of society which culminated in many deaths due to oppression and malnutrition.

3. Exactamente....
People here have a way to go before things tip...but some of these aristocrats forget how close we came to an overthrow of the Government in the Depression. FDR saved the upper class as well as the poor and middle class. We won't go Communist, but when your children cry themselves to sleep from hunger and you don't eat so they can.....socialism looks pretty good.

8. I heard (I believe it was Thom Hartmann) that the IMF wants to audit
us, but that Bush has persuaded them to put it off until the next president takes over. Maybe that is why they are running McCain, who is an extremely weak candidate.

9. Just think...
Had the Argentinian people had a well-armed populace, they could have averted catastophe with some judiciously applied violence.

If that crowd had rifles instead of pots and pans, then the corrupt bastards who fucked the whole country could have been dealt with right then and there, rather than allowing them time to dispatch the goon squad.

Sometimes violence IS the answer.

See, in America, you'll NEVER get a popular political demonstration like that. Not while football and American Idol rule the day.

10. On the contrary . . . you'd have ended up with . . .
A few dead cops, hundreds of dead demonstrators, and a militarization of the conflict that would have ripped the place apart and entrenched the power of the official bullies. Can you spell Tiananmen?

Ghandi proved more than 60 years ago that nonviolence is much more effective. Pots and pans are vastly superior to handguns and hunting rifles when it comes to overthrowing a repressive regime (or even a merely illegitimate one).
