Apparently Rape-Publican Senatorial candidate Norm Coleman has an ad on the air in Minnesota bragging about how he "brought hockey back" to the state. Here's Al Franken's response.

4. Well done
I wouldn't be surprised if getting a hockey team rates above blindly following the failure in Iraq to most...it's not their kids dying.

8. As was pointed out in a LTTE to the Strib
When professional hockey was brought back to Minnesota, Normie was still the DFL mayor of St. Paul and worked with the DFL controlled City Council and the DFL controlled legislature to get it back here. Getting hockey back included building the Xcel Center - where the RNC will be holding it's convention.

Nice going Al. A little humor can also make a pretty clear point. It is a bit humorous that the repugs would even "want to" run...on THEIR record. God help us all.

12. and the fact is, Norm DID NOT bring hockey back.
he had a hand in it, as st. paul mayor, but others did more behind the scenes.

and besides, this was one of those times that if officialdom had FAILED to bring hockey back to Minnesota they would have been put before a firing squad.
Minnesota without hockey? Yeah, right.
you could see from the start that Coleman was going to claim this was his baby. it was no such thing.
a real tough call.......every single game played in that arena has been sold out...to the rafters (NHL, I mean.)
if normie tries to exploit 'hockey returns' as a coleman project people will see through it and hand him his ass over it.

13. Like an SNL sketch!
I swear ta gawd, if this was sometime BEFORE 2000, I would have assumed this was just one of his SNL sketches because obviously it's too unbelievable to be real. Turns out, it's real. So sad.

24. Now that you mention it ... that would work.
IMO, the fake commercials created for SNL were brilliant and memorable. And this Franken ad does play like one. Franken's team ought to continue on this path.

26. Have not seen it yet
but will certainly be a burst of fresh air after the never ending Coleman ad with, yes, a guy at a bowling alley "listing" Coleman's "achievements" (not a word about Iraq) and a chorus reminding him that Coleman brought hockey back..

One really has to see Coleman's ad to appreciate this rebuttal.

19.  Not a good ad.
The ad focus attention strictly on Norm Coleman, not on Al Franken, as it should. No matter how bad an ad tries to make an opponent look, it is just free publicity for the opponent, and doesn't lead the voter to support your candidate at all. Wasted money on this ad.

But I agree, the actor they did hire was great.

I still remember the "I'm 99% better than Paul Wellstone" comment. God rot his (coleman's) soul, if he has one that is.

22. After some early noise (I don't think they were stumbles),
But at any rate, Al's campaign wasn't really clicking up here for quite a stretch, but it really seems to be firing up. I am hoping for a real sustained blast of momentum so that we can remove the empty suit that is Norm Coleman from Senate.

30. The lesson: don't play the "funny" card against a comedian.
Franken just chewed him up and spit him out like a heckler in the audience.

I think Franken should do an ad where "Joe Bowler" and his pals say, "We like Norm Coleman! He cheats on his wife like WE do!"
