1. My parents are liberal Democrats and they voted for 13.
They stand by that decision today.

Had it not passed, they surely would have been forced out of their (our) home in due time, especially after they went through several bouts on unemployment in the late 80's and early 90's.

2. there was a time when 13 made sense.... ------>
middle income homeowners were getting VERY hard hit with taxes...
those on fixed incomes were concerned...
13 made sense...

there are a LOT of things that make sense at ONE POINT IN TIME and not at a DIFFERENT POINT IN TIME...

WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE GOVT OF THE PEOPLE GOOD... is that it adjusts to the needs of the people

TAXES ARE DIFFICULT... the calculation and use of the money... complex

UNIONS are GOOD... but look what THEY did to themselves....

BUSINESS and PEOPLE... complex issues.... you CANNOT LEAVE IT TO THE "D" STUDENT (even PARIS)
OR THE GUY WHO HASN'T FIGURED OUT HIS GOOGLY INTERNETS

3. Many people credit 13
with the development of Silicon Valley and California's surge of prosperity in the 80's. As it happens I was just starting school when it went into effect (I entered kindergarten in '78). My family had just moved there in '76, and I don't know how things might have been different for us if it hadn't gone that way. All I know is that the teachers were pretty unhappy for as long as I can remember.
