4. True,
but it did postpone real debate for another day. One less day for McCain/Palin to screw up which, IMO, is what it was intended to do. The real test will be if the media begins to report all of the repub foolishness.

11. I think it postponed it for McLame, that's for certain
I don't think it postponed the debate for Obama in any serious measure. He's not the one who made a day of it: the media pushed this at McLame's insistence---and McLame went as far as saying that Obama not agreeing to do town hall meetings with him is the reason why he's the one allowing this stupidity to even have its head.

This can neatly be laid at McLame's feet.

27. Obama is talking about issues.
Well, Obama's TRYING to discuss the issues. McCain can't because the GOP has no idea what to do but "stay the course"...which is a disaster. If the campaign is about issues, and not who can gut a moose, McCain loses.

He said that the McCain campaign had "jumped the pig."

2. The only problem is the generic "state of the debate" label
This isn't an even "they both are doing it" issue. It's the McCain campaign. From his celebrity ads to his making up that Obama didn't visit the troops because of cameras, or creating perceived slights about his time as a POW. McCain has done anything but focus on having a decent debate on the issues. To be fair, he can't do that and win, but it's not Obama it's about 99 percent McCain.

NOT the Obama campaign.

18. YEP !!!
CROTCH SUCKER ...

The way the media does it, McCain is going on three months now, starting with the freakin "Paris Hilton" ad, of just throwing whatever crape they make up on any given day at BO. BO is TRYING to stick to campaigning and SURE as heck is NOT engaging this retarded nonsense, and this jackoff freakin puts responsibility on BOTH of them.

ARSEHOLE, JERKOFF, MFER ...

This is how they do it.

talking about BS like that instead of the issues and what's he talk about lipstick on a pig. Why didn't he do an editorial on the issues?

7. The upside is this successful "pushback" by the media may embolden them to do more of it.
I detect more calling of BS than in the last two elections. Not a whole lot more, but some.

The media is still far to ready to jump on these BS stories and start reporting the "conflict" as the news.

10. I don't even get what US reporters are smokin
Reporting on that is serious bushleague shit. When we get a release from a political party that makes reference to such things, we say "Into the trash!" And toss it. We won't even waste time on it. BEcause it turns into a stupid shouting match and that's not our purpose.

12. CBS debunked it, too.
They showed lots and lots of footage of Obama, both when he made the original statement and what he said about it afterward at today's speech on education. Which, by the way, was the real policy issue the media might have taken up, if not for this distraction. But if anyone watched CBS tonight, they'd have no excuse for still believing that Obama smeared anyone in any way.

CBS also debunked the internet ad accusing Obama of wanting to teach "sex ed" to kindergarteners.

21. I watched CBS... I was very upset for the first few minutes as they implied that
the campaigns had went into mudslinging mode  then, Couric's annoying-ness was only made up for when they did a 'fact check' on the commercial about sex ed, and the pig comment - both were shown as non-factual by their reporter.

24. The media still pisses me off tho
It still bothers me that it took Obama to drive the point home
that the media is part of the problem by jumping on these
storys when you know its fabricated to divert from
issues. Then when the media reports on it they almost throw
obama in the mess like he is going back and forth with mccain
not talking about issues. Its like if Mccain does something
idiotic like he is always doing and calling it strategy, they
lump Barrack in it as part of the problem.I swear if obama
didnt set the tone he did in his speech today the reporting on
this matter whould have been hella different. This nation i
swear.....

13. Glad to see this on broadcast.
Keith and Tweety can rant all they want, but the Republican base isn't going to see it.

Not to disparage Keith and Tweety-- they were both masterful tonight. Just saying that Joe and Jane Sixpack aren't watching their shows.

29. Did anyone see BBC America news tonight?
I couldn't help but giggle about the "lipstick frivolity" discussion between Matt Frei and Katty Kay. They made no effort to hide their feelings that this is far beyond absurd, even for American politics.

Brilliant - hope to find a video clip.
