Sarah Palin fielded a few questions during a Townhall yesterday for the first time since being chosen as John McCain's running mate.

One of her responses left many stumped.

Via CNN:

Asked for "specific skills" she could cite to rebut critics who question her grasp of international affairs, she replied, "I am prepared."

"I have that confidence. I have that readiness," Palin said. "And if you want specifics with specific policies or countries, you can go ahead and ask me. You can play 'stump the candidate' if you want to. But we are ready to serve.

Another one of Palin's answers which happened to be on Energy, an area McCain has said Palin is "one of the leading experts in the world" on, left many baffled as you can see by the video above.

is that people have been letting Ms Half Baked Alaska get away with this stuff all her life.

Lying is 2nd nature to her, which tells me she is not a good person to allow near any sort of power.

If she ever did become President, she would be the last President this country ever had.

12. So she says 'no regulation'...
... no controls, free market - and then implies - there will be significant restrictions (or not, depending on what fungible means lol) that will prevent oil from leaving the US - she can't have it both ways.

She's "confident" that Congress will require the oil to be sold domestically. Yet when an amendment was introduced by Democrats to require just that, the Republicans blocked it!

18. Darn I think I agree with her
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 05:48 PM by ImpalerWrG
Actually I find the statement quite coherent. This 'Incoherent' bit seems to be the media grasping at a straws or not knowing what the word fungible means? The question they asked her is if she supports banning the export of US domestically pumped Oil. Because we are an importer most Oil pumped in the US is in fact burn here but their might be a few cases ware its more convenient to transport oil to another country because of proximity it minimizes the expense of moving it (remember to move oil across the ocean you have to burn oil so the shorter the trips the more oil will actually arrive at everyones ports and points of use), I'm thinking some of the oil from Alaska might go to Japan for this reason. Pailin's right that the oil is just 'pooled' aka fungible and no one cares ware each molecule actually goes because the price is going to be set by the world market based on total supply and demand, so long as we are an importer it makes no difference, only an exporter can effect domestic price by banning exports (though this inevitably results in smuggling if the world price is higher then the domestic one). So as much as I dislike it I'm agreeing with their position that export bans are not only useless but actually counter-productive, the market price wouldn't drop because supply hasn't changed but longer transport and extra logistics would add costs. The last sentence about Americans 'holding the bag' is odd though and I can't see the meaning on it, dose she expect retaliatory measures from exporters?

23. Okay after the second listen what she is saying is
"Congress" is not going to leave us holding the bag. The crude oil will go to domestic areas in the US first before the consideration of being sent out to other countries like China. Basically in a situation where we the US citizens are investing our tax dollars in Alaska and new drilling, we will be the first to get the crude oil (domestic use first). That is as long as Alaska separatists in 2018 when this will actually be accomplished dont then claim Alaska as a soveriegn nation and take all the wealth for themselves, leaving us holding the bill.... LOL. Hmmm....

fungibley fun! Flag those molecules. Let's have a party! Pffft.

27. Treaties
The U.S. has treaties that seriously restrict ability to impose import/ export bans.

Most of our imported oil comes from Canada and Mexico. That's also where most of our exports go. NAFTA rules.

Problem is, she says one thing one moment and the exact opposite the very next.

PALIN: "Oil and coal, of course, its a fungible commodity and they don't flag the molecules where it's goin' and where it's not but in the sense of the Congress today, they know that there are very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first so I believe that what Congress is gonna do also is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it's Americans that get stuck holdin' the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here, it's gotta flow into our domestic markets first."

36. I didn't think it was clumsy. Just ignorant
The whole point of drilling is for oil companies to get rich. it isn't as if this is being done for the benefit of Americans. If this was for our good, we should nationalize those oil fields and hire Exxon or whomever to drill it for us at a fair price for their labor and WE TAXPAYERS KEEP THE PROFITS.

But nobody is ever proposing that, are they?

and that is what happens when you try to pump a jillion talking points into a mortal like herself -- she is not ready for prime time, and i'm convinced this is WHY they've cancelled so many of her appearances recently, so they can try and get her at least somewhat fucking coherent for the debate.

Or.. they're hoping she drops out to focus on her "family", so they can get someone who knows shit from Shinola.
