During the Appropriations Committee hold markup of the Emergency Supplemental for Iraq and Veterans, Republican Rep. Jerry Lewis attempted to strip language restricting the use of troops who are not properly equipt or trained, with the only exception being when President Bush is willing to publicly certify it is necessary, along with language requiring that the Iraqi government meet the benchmarks previously laid out by President Bush. The effort was defeated shortly after Appropriations Defense Subcommittee Chairman John Murtha spoke against it.

3. I had to Google that prick Jerry Lewis.

Imagine that--30 years in the life insurance business and no military service. Even if you support this war, I don't understand how anyone could support sending in troops who are not properly trained or equipped. It's absolutely unconscionable. And depressing as hell to think that the Shrub-supporting population (30%?) is probably OK with it. Sigh.

Of course they're okay with it, the only loyalty they have is to the party, and to Bush. In my personal view they deserve to get what all traitors get!!!!

But I'll settle for dropping them into Iraq with a plastic spoon, wearing rubber shoes and a diaper.

6. If ever an army were to turn against its civilian leadership...
it will be this army.

Still highly unlikely, but....

7. That's just mildly hot
Losing it is when you threaten to kill the stupid MF that caused this war.

8. Murtha is referring to the 1AD, which just returned after being extended

At their "welcome home" ceremony, cannons were fired, and they took cover.

If the military community doesn't realize how bad it is over in Iraq, that they would shoot off cannons to "benefit" shell-shocked soldiers, I don't suppose we can expect Jerry Lewis to know what the hell is going on.

On edit: a lot of 1AD must be in contact w/Murtha, or at least their families are. It's really bad, folks, and he knows it. He speaks from the heart and head.

9. Does Lewis have children or grandchildren
Send someone to them and try to get them to enlist. Tell them their father/grandfather supports fighting in Iraq. And that they should sign up.

11. That's not losing it...that's TELLING IT LIKE IT FREAKIN' IS!
(and I KNOW what "IS" means, btw).

Murtha was pissed, but he wasn't irrational or out of control, and the jerk he was talking to deserved to have a new one ripped. Fox News would be saying "Murtha Loses It". You should change the thread title if you still have time.

(btw, can anybody explain why a congressional district would elect and repeatedly reelect a guy named JERRY LEWIS? That's just wrong all by itself...)

12. The Dems need to continue to tell the truth with passion!
This is not losing it. He is being emphatic. I thought he was being diplomatic in the way he said, you're not proposing sending over troops that are ill-equipped and untrained?

Go, Mr. Murtha!

13. the cause is clearly right, clearly good; but imo dems need to get...
focused, steely eyed and not lapse into theatrics, or trip over some of the most important numbers & dates we as a nation are facing as was the case with Rep. Obey the other day announcing details of a piece of legislation regarding troop removal,

the opposition laps those trips & foibles up like kitty milk from a saucer, they play & expand on it :freak:
