Conservative George Will calls McCain's response to the economic crisis "unpresidential" stating that "McCain left many of us fearful," while Sam Donaldson discusses how McCain has "gotten his talking points all mixed up" and raises concern about McCain's age.

"It was two days after the he said the fundamentals of the economy were strong. His talking points have gotten all mixed up. And I think the question of age is back on the table" Donaldson said.

65. There were more "Money Quotes" from George Will there...
We need to shout these out BOLDLY

From Conservative analyst George Will:

"John McCain, who as usual, substituting vehemence for coherence, said "Let's FIRE somebody."

"It was un-Presidential behavior by a Presidential aspirant."

"John McCain showed his personality this week and made some of us... fearful."

We should be forwarding this to every conservative or leans-conservative acquaintance we have.

4. Wow! Having read the transcript, I have to say the video is much more
damaging. I think the Maverick is down for the count. Of course, Al Qaida, or the Taliban, or Hamas will pull his chestnuts out of the fire come October. I'm sure they've got a doozy planned just before the election, and our attention will once again turn to national security.

7. Yes. Very damaging to McCain
These are not progressive bloggers who already were saying how reckless and dangerous McCain is. But, even conservative pundits are saying publicly how "unpresidential" McCain is. And, of course, there IS the age issue which is quite concerning, especially in times like these.

20. I agree in some respects. But if you'll remember '00 & '04, Bush who's
a bumbling idiot managed to get good debate reviews just for showing up. Perhaps I'm a little more skeptical than you, but I hope for our sake that the rightwing pundits continue to take him to the woodshed. The ultra-conservatives have never been in love with McCain, and I think his performance last week just reinforced their distrust of him.

Planes cost money. Tanks cost money. Bombs cost money. Guns cost money. Bullets, armor, humvees, telephones, radios, computers... they all cost money.

Soldiers cost money.

How are we going to protect America if we don't have any money?

45. The point is that they do know better
Donaldson, Roberts, Will, and even the "young" Stephanopolos, have all failed us. The story of the financial collapse of the US economy has been there for my entire life. The press, which is supposed to spend their time holding those in power accountable, instead spend their careers lurching from O.J. Simpson to Clinton/Lewinsky to Sarah Palin's grandchild. The huge trade deficits, budget deficits, the increasing imbalance between rich and poor, the real impact of deregulation, all of this has been evident for years. It's like our economy has had some sort of festering lesion on its face, and the collective response of the press corps has been to ignore it and hope it goes away, until one day there's this devastating diagnosis of malignant melanoma and we find that the economy has to undergo chemotherapy, and now they begin to connect the dots.

Just like with global warming, health care and so many other problems. The old people in the old media have been AWOL.

Old. These folks are old. The older generation that has been in charge has run up a huge credit card bill, and are about to retire and hand the debt to their kids and grandkids: "I'm moving to Florida! Enjoy your austerity."

Fire Cox? That's his answer? Even George Will is smart enough to understand that firing Cox does nothing to end the slow-motion collapse of the global banking and finance industries. But that's all McCain had to offer: scapegoating some guy nobody ever heard of.

11. It wasn't just the "unpresidential" comment
Clearly George Will is deeply troubled by McCain for good reasons. That's a serious problem for McCain because there are a lot of conservative older folks who listen to Will.

Donaldson bravely tried to mention the elephant in the room, that McCain is not very much in control of his faculties. There is a long tradition of the media covering up physical disabilities of the powerful as well as ethical disabilities. But when we have a case where the 72-year-old candidate, who would be the oldest person to ever take office, is showing strong and frequent signs of dementia -- serious signs, but just the occasional brain farts we all have -- will the media cover for him on that?

One scenario is that this "crisis" (whether it be manufactured or real) may be enough to cause the media to no cover for McCain. If the media believes that our economic system is truly at a critical point, they may be less willing to excuse McCain's daily crazy-old-coot routine as the charming behaviors of a maverick.

25. Conservatives against Mccain
With SO many conservatives (and I don't mean Hannity, etc. I don't even know what to call them) are coming out here and there against McCain on issues, one has to wonder if the word from "the top" is that the "fix" is in . . . for Obama. With the disasters befalling us even the conservatives are scared. And I don't mean a real "fix" but a backing off of some of the Republican typical cheating, etc.

Republicans can become Dems when they become enlightened--educated either by a formal education or by just living and learning. But how can you go from Dem to Repub without a lobotomy? ;)

I'm a former Republican so I can talk. I started to think for myself in my 40s and the Dems made more sense based on what I'd seen in my life up until then. If only other Repubs would stop following blindly and start to wake up.
