Like it, hate it, it is cresting the news cycle.

Some Freeper took this original pro-Obama clip and spliced it with a bunch of VRWC crap.

This ad doesn't do anything for Obama, either.

I'm not too thrilled with any of the announced candidates. Obama and Mrs. Clinton both seem more concerned about not making any missteps than on giving me (and I presume by extention, any body else) a reason to vote for either of them. Edwards has been a little bolder in his pronoucements, but he, too, seems to really want to be inoffensive more than anything else.

Kucinich speaks his mind, but he can afford to. He's not going to be president. Still, I might vote for in the primary, if only to give him an "Attaboy" Award.

I thought that parody constitutes fair use?

Either way, if Apple decided to harass YouTube over this a la Viacom, because this is a political clip, they would get a lot of flack for using the DMCA to force YouTube to remove it. Such a threat would be right up there with the RIAA's suits regarding file-sharing, and ASCAP's threat of copyright infringement suit against the Girl Scouts for singing campfire songs. And who knows, maybe Steve Jobs is an Obama fan :)

...A spokesman for Obama said he is aware of the...video...but he insisted that the campaign is not connected to it...(He) said he doesn't know who created the spot, but it shows "there is a lot of energy for Sen. Obama on the Web..."

Of course a supporter who is that devoted would include the link to Obama's official presidental site. If the Obama camp decides they're unhappy about that, all they have to do is request that a disclaimer be added.

I can't see how that is an accurate portrayal of Hillary. If anything she'd try too hard to take in all sides rather than Big Brother us. Inaccurate, unreasonable, and near smear tactics.

Unfortunately, her detached speaking style enhances the effect.

This is how many people view Hillary after years of speaking in cliches, guarded expressions and positioning herself as the establishment, safe candidate. The video is brilliant.

This shorter version I don't mind, actually.

But the longer one released by the deletehillary(dot)com site is foul. And regardless of whether the ad came from the same place or not, the ads are going to be associated. People are going to look for the one and find the other. And both of these are coming out at the same time? Maybe I'm just behind the times, which is completely possible - but if not, how could both these ads be hitting the Internet at the same time?

I bet Steve Jobs comes down HARD on this - either one is an association with a classic Apple Computer ad that the company would not want people to be making. They even parody the Apple logo! They're looking for the publicity of the "cease and desist."

I have no problem with parody, especially of an ad that only ran once (technically twice, with the first time being a demo) and for a product that Apple no longer makes (the original Macintosh.) And, as I mentioned in a previous post, if they try to browbeat YouTube to remove the ad, it will make them look bad from a PR standpoint. PR is one of the few things keeping copyright abuse in check (although in the RIAA's case, they don't give a shit, unfortunately.)

Judging from what is there, those people sure don't like the Clintons!

It takes a portion of a Hillary speech in which she seems to be making open, welcoming, friendly gestures (the whole "Let's start the conversation about this country" stuff) and puts it in a context in which it's equated with totalitarian oppression listened to numbly by proles whose ability to engage with her in such a conversation appears to be dubious at best. The analogy of a political candidate--a SINGLE political candidate among several!--who seems like the "same old same old" to some people to the leader of a totalitarian regime just doesn't even begin to work. (Whereas, the analogy in the original Apple ad worked, because prior to the Mac, you really DID have only one "flavor" of computer operating system being used by the general public.)

It's like when schoolkids compare their teacher to "Hitler" because "she kept us after class that one time" or "she gives us too much homework." Oh, the oppression! :sarcasm: Yes, let's smash Hillary, that horrible tyrant who wants to TALK WITH US about the direction of our country!!

If I were Obama's campaign, I'd steer way clear of it--not only because it's blatant bashing of another candidate, but because it's BAD, heavyhanded bashing of another candidate. It doesn't even seem to be his style.

I'm sure John Edwards is loving it.

Obama had a very clean campaign as did his fellow dems. He didn't slime his opponents, they didn't slime him. He rereleased his autobiography in which he mentioned his drug use and no one cared. Obama was very respectful, also. Then in the general he ran against alan keyes. That was very entertaining. Obama didn't have to do anything but watch keyes act looney.
