2. Wow, balantz, if we take this Youtube and watch it with the other...
...Youtube you posted,

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x200905

we get a real taste of what's going on. I bet McCain and Obama wasn't suppose to be in on that meeting McCain invited himself to. Republicans will go on record saying they have been shut out, when the truth is, all our reps have been shut out; all but the well connected. ..Know wonder no one really knows what's going on.

I said this before and I'll say it again, I want a full investigation of Nancy Pelosi. What the hell is she doing? She refuses to hold our White House accountable, and now this.

I hope this thread makes it to the greatest page.

3. Hope they discuss Hartmann's suggestion of taxing Wall Street transactions.
It's apparently being done in other markets around the world. A .25 tax on all transactions would net about $850B the first year and Wall Street could pay for its own bailout, not the American people. The tax would also serve as a temporary damper on market activity until the new regs could be decided on and practiced.

10. Marcy Kaptur is my new hero...
...and damn straight she speaks for me!!!

You tell it, Marcy! This was fraud from the gate, and the brazenness with which it is being laid at the feet of the American middle class is breathtaking. Not to mention the willingness on the part of Congress to go along.

No taxation without representation. No trillion dollar bailout without debate.

And as if, as fucking if they could not have waited another few weeks until the new president is sworn in.

11. The more we see, none of the principles are covered
other than with a few toothless provisions here and there.

I still don't understand why the Democrats did this. It was the Republicans' mess. Why should we be giving their SoT the powers of a dictator with a 700 billion dollar slush fund?

What was Obama thinking? I'm guessing it went something like this:

1) If we don't give Bush what he's asking for, he could precipitate a financial disaster and blame it on us. That could very easily cost us the election.

2) How fast can the Republicans spend the money? Can they spend all $250B and make their claim on the rest before they are out of office? We hope not.

3) If this is what it takes, it may be worth $700B to get these guys out of office.

12. Forget Saturday Night Live!
This is crucial information we need to pay close attention to it and act on it!

Put this video at the top of the page!

No damned bailout congress! Your true constituents do not want it!

Do you work for our sacred Constitution? Or do you work for criminals who hold themselves above the law?

This is the last straw! Are you criminals? Or are you for us?

20. false choice
False choice, false choice, a thousand times I say it - false choice.

"What if we are wrong and there is a mushroom cloud over New York?"

It is not the bailout or do nothing.

It was not invade Iraq or do nothing.

It was not the bankruptcy bill, the Patriot Act, NCLB, privatized Social Security, HAVA, Blackwater, or do nothing.

How can anyone be disseminating this same tired old Bush administration propaganda trick?

21. That's the problem.....
the messenger. You all shot the messenger, because you don't trust him. I get that. I don't trust him either, but there are other people telling us it's for real. Like Obama.

But I swear to GOD if this didn't go through, and it wrecked our economy even more, that 70% who thought it was a trick, and BITCHED to congress, should be jettisoned OFF the fucking planet for being so WRONG. Because your paranoia would have done great harm to all of us.

Money and Votes Aligned in Congress's Last Debate Over Bank Regulation

The last time Congress seriously debated how to regulate the financial industry, the result was legislation that allowed the nation's largest banks to get even larger and take risks that had been prohibited since the Great Depression. A look back at that debate, which was over the 1999 Financial Services Modernization Act, reveals that campaign contributions may have influenced the votes of politicians who, a decade later, are now grappling with the implosion of the giant banks they helped to foster.

Looking back at the vote on the 1999 act, and the campaign contributions that led up to it, the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics has found that those members of Congress who supported lifting Depression-era restrictions on commercial banks, investment banks and insurance companies received more than twice as much money from those interests than did those lawmakers who opposed the measure.

-snip-

Nine years later, Congress is debating a proposal from the Treasury Secretary to assume the bad investments that are weighing down the nation's financial institutions, at taxpayer expense. And lobbyists representing the financial services industry are trying to once again shape fast-moving legislation to their clients' benefit. Whether campaign contributions will again correlate to congressional votes remains to be seen.

The following chart summarizes the votes and money around Gramm-Leach-Bliley in 1999. Below it is a table of all current members of Congress, how much money their campaign committees have received from the financial sector in their congressional careers and how they voted on the 1999 Financial Services Modernization Act. An "A" indicates they were absent for the 1999 vote, as McCain was. An empty vote column, as with Obama, indicate the lawmaker was not in office at the time.

No one is trying to tell you not to vote, are they?

Do we have to never criticize a politician in order to vote for them?

26. nothing to do with that at all
It is the same pattern. The exact same pattern.

Our paranoia? Good grief. We are trying to fight against paranoia.

I have to believe that you must be seriously traumatized by this in order to say "that 70% who thought it was a trick, and BITCHED to congress, should be jettisoned OFF the fucking planet for being so WRONG."

This insanity. We are not to say that we should not give the people who caused this mess more money and power, and somehow WE - by speaking our minds - are causing a depression?

We can't touch the sharks who caused this, in fact we are going to coddle them and lavishly reward them, but you want to jettison people off the planet for expressing their opinion, and you want to blame them for the mayhem those sharks caused?

That is no different than saying that the people criticizing the Iraq war somehow were helping the terrorists.

It is not about the messenger. It is the same "logic," the same pattern, and the same traumatized response from you as we have seen dozens and dozens of times. What we are talking about is the modus operandi of a criminal gang.

This lady is amazing and I thank her for her integrity and loyalty to the people. I just hope she is able to at lest persuade the House to delay the vote for further discussion. The fact they are trying so hard to push it through is evidence that something doesn't smell right!
