During her interview with Katie Couric, Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, states in reference to the causes of global warming, "It kinda doesn't matter what caused it."

Palin's failure to comprehend that alleviating global warming cannot be achieved without understanding the causes, reveals yet again Palin's knowledge on energy and environmental issues is extremely limited.

Ironically, John McCain has referred to Palin as one of the "nation's leading experts on energy."

1. Okay, If Its Not Man-Made, But Due To Cyclical Changes,,,
Can and should we try to prevent it? Or, should we simply just wait for the next cooling cycle?

I can see why the right wing types love her.

6. Exactly

If it's primarly cyclical and it's not important to understand how man made pollution impacts our planet...then how does Palin propose we fix the problem?

I wish Couric would have followed up with that question. Or at least, what would you do to reduce global warming?

Palin is running for VICE PRESIDENT. Why is she being treated like a child?

2. Who was it that said...
"Sarah Palin is dumber than Bush."

How anti-Science is Sarah Palin? Exactly how do her extremist religious beliefs affect her governing style?

3. Get your ammo ready -- I'm gonna give props to Palin on this response.
She is AT LEAST acknowledging there is a problem and at least acknowledging that man has contributed to it. And I'm in agreement with her that at this point we just have to do something about it.

Kind of like my view of the financial situation. We can't waste the time 'proving' who was at fault, we have to determine what steps we can do to help, and to ensure it doesn't happen again in the future.

7. You cannot solve the problem...
without understanding the causes. If we don't understand the impacts of deforestation, pollution from power plants, auto emissions, N2O, carbon dioxide, etc, how will policies be crafted to address the problem?

How would we know to cap emissions, limit deforestation, etc?

9. Understood and agree. In fact you've changed my mind. Seriously.
I was thinking in terms of wasting time determining who was to 'blame', but I missed the bigger picture. Thanks for enlightening me and making me think through this more carefully. :pals:

15. Whether its Katrina, or he financial meltdown, or global warning
Whenever Republicans know that it cannot be refuted that they and thier policies are the cause, they always say the same thing, what matters is fixing the problem, not assessing blame.

What if Democrats had taken this tack about Clintons affair. It doesnt matter who was to blame, but lets just see that this not continue.

10. Doesn't matter?
Okay, so she agrees we need to do something about it, but it doesn't matter what's causing it?

How does one go about fixing a problem without identifying it's cause?

Why are so many people still enamored of this brainless barbie doll????

Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 09:56 PM by grasswire
I think she's really confused in her word choice. Check it out. Just after Katie asks her if it's man made.....she just goes off on an unintelligible tangent. "I'm not going to blame man's activities on global warming" is what she utters.

14. Her "points" are stupid
and her speech is just horrific - not a completed sentence in sight, parts of speech and tenses flying everywhere... Linguistically, she makes Bush look like a genius, and I never thought that I would see a human that could do that. Kudos, you stupid-ass hockey mom!

Obviously, as a VP, adequate communication skills are a critical skill to possess. VPs act as our nation's diplomats/representatives around the globe. They also need to be able to communicate clearly with the American people.

So many of her interview answers are incoherent.

It is galling that McCain used such reckless judgment in putting this woman on the ticket. Clearly, she is NOT qualified for the job of VP or potentially President.

She's dubious that global warming is man-made, but she's sure we can do something about it??

Uh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

22. Yes...
She's trying to appease her fundies while not undercutting John McCain's position on this which leaves her looking very evasive. But then again, she rarely does answer the question, she just spews out the talking points she thinks match up to the questions.

19. Well, at least she isn't going to blame all man's activities on climate change
because doing that would mean she's loony tunes. For someone with a communication major, she really can't put together a coherent sentence.

21. Uh, pardon me, Sarah
ALL the states feel the effects of climate change/global warming in one way or another, not just Alaska.

Oh, okay, fer crying out loud: Gulf Coast hurricanes, Midwest droughts/floods, mammoth West forest fires, polluted oceans, rivers, lakes and air....I hope this comes up in the debate!

23. Uh Sarah, it kinda DOES matter
Because if you don't accept that it is principally caused by human activity, then how could you take any constructive steps to reverse it?

If you really believe it is just a cyclical thing, pray, tell us how you intend to change nature.

24. Gov. Palin, your oil caused it, and that matters.
It means that by drilling in ANWR, we are not only damaging ANWR locally, we are damaging ourselves globally and you are being reckless by promoting it.

"We oughta do sumpthin' about it."

Procrastinators everywhere recognize that statement.
