41. Pollblilnd - totally off-subject - I just found out today that one of my co-workers worked with
Jimmy Carter. Saw the pix in the signature line and thought you might like to know. I will find out more and let you know, if you would like. What was so funny is that I was telling her about The Rude Pundit's post, telling her that I would forward it to her, but I also warned her - "You've got to realize before you start reading it that it uses some pretty raunchy language. She said, "Are you kidding? I worked in Jimmy Carter's office. Send it to me!" LOL

Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 12:46 AM by ImForGore
I about fell off the sofa laughing... Jon calls his show fake news, but he gets it like few "real news" people do. We all need to remember, if and when Barack wins, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were instrumental. Fake news my ass, real news no one else has the balls to do (Keith and Rachel come close).

edited 'cause I spell like crap. :)

19. That wasn't the MSM
That was FoxNews.

To be MSM, you have to know how a journalist is supposed to behave, just not do it. At FoxNews, they don't know what journalism is.

17. And yet the "liberal media" covers it like it's brand new and amazing!
And when Obama gives a speech on his new economic plan, with real ideas, the media ignores him.

25. Wow! I knew it was virtually impossible these days to satirise right-wingers,
but this seems to be the ultimate illustration. I see John Stewart got round the problem by having McCain mimick himself - simultaneously! Now - as far as I know - that IS new.

26. Was that sarcasm?
Seems like SNL has found it pretty easy to satirize right-wingers. You just repeat exactly what they say.

in their own echo chamber, preferably when that message is touted as something new, as in this case. When they hit rock bottom, it's difficult to satirise them, in much the same way as calling someone a Nazi no longer has the same force, because there's so much of it in the world - the banality of evil.

Brilliant as Tina Fey's impersonation of La Palin was, I actually didn't find it that funny. I suppose I don't really want to be reminded of how far she defies satire. On the other hand, a great guy like Biden, getting caught out playing the Senate game of smarming over each other - it's the air they breathe there, the basic currency - lent itself to hilarious satire as he clearly recognised himself, laughing uncontrollably at the memory of the clip.

Ironically, a British satirist - it might have been Peter Cook - once said that satirists really need right-wing politics and politicians for their work. Disraeli once decribed the Tory Party as an organised hypocrisy, lending plausibility to the thesis. But who could ever have imagined the depth of imbecility and raw, naked unconscionable avarice, all but defying satire, that it could have revert to, in such a brief period of time?

33. Where'd Biden laugh at his SNL satire?
I didn't catch that- Where did Biden react to his SNL impersonation with laughter? That's a wonderful reaction, I think. Shows that he doesn't take himself so seriously, which is an essential ingredient in negotiations and meetings with people who might not be on your side.

38. Thanks!
I can't believe I missed that one. As election day gets nearer and nearer, I get more and more nervous, and the only remedy is to watch funny clips of The Daily Show and SNL, alongside righteous clips of KO and Rachel Maddow. This is a gem for that collection.

36. Having McCain's identical speeches juxtaposed like that was like a kind of
double bluff. It's as if one was mocking the other: one was a satirist! When the reality was that the talking-head's lie about McCain's speech being dazzlingly new, a game-changer almost(!) could hardly have been further from the truth. He should be sacked. Except he was probably put up to it by senior management.
