1. I like Tweety!
Chris Matthews is fun to watch. I love it when he hounds someone to answer his question.

6. Tweety wasn't so funny when he was a huge cheerleader for Bu$h.
We should NEVER forget what the media did to us the last 8 years, and Matthews was one of the worst. Seriously.

He'll have to be the way he is now for a fucking long time before I forget about that.

10. I didn't know who Chris Matthews was a year ago, or so.
So that's why so many DUers dislike him.

13. that is one reason of many.
I can't count how many times he's infuriated me. Sure, he's doing the right thing now. Same for Andrew Sullivan, Christopher Hitchens. These bastards think we have a short memory. We do NOT.

16. very good point. He's been in the upper echelon of media whores for a long time.
It's nice that he is anti-McCain now, but we mustn't forget how much harm the media has done to our country.
And Tweety WAS one of the very worst. I found this, from an old article about Media Whores Online, Matthews, and MWO's "Chris Matthews Drinking Game", AKA "Highball":

Homeboy Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC's political roundtable Hardball, and owner of a singularly prolific set of salivary glands, is a frequent fixture on MWO. He is, along with Tim Russert, Matt Drudge and Andrew Sullivan, a permanent member of the "Top Ten A-List Whore Roster."

There is also the "Chris Matthews Drinking Game." In order to make watching Hardball more palatable, viewers are encouraged to imbibe to Matthews' words and actions during the show. Chris says "Let's Play Hardball." (Sip.) Chris interrupts a Democrat. (Sip till he stops.) Chris mentions Churchhill (Three sips.) Nobody mentions Bill or Hillary Clinton for nine minutes (Down half a bottle.)

Chris whores for Bush. (Sip till he stops.) Chris drools. (Sip.) Chris brings up--for absolutely no reason--the fact that he is Catholic. (Make Sign of the Cross; sip.) If all goes according to script, the game culminates in Chris saying "sublime masculinity" (a phrase Matthews apparently used repeatedly in reference to Al Gore after his concession), at which point viewers are instructed to crush the bottle or glass in their bare hands.

"Matthews," the website points out, "is sublimely whorish."

I'm not sure if Matthews ever won MediaWhore of the Year (I know Russert won AT LEAST once -in a total freakin' landslide for 2003-, possibly twice), but he was one of the 10 nominees for the honor for 2002:

In Googling around for Matthews references, I found THIS -- an archive of a full daily page of MWO!! And the links along the left side of the page, including a more detailed list of the rules for "Highball" plus various lists of MediaWhores and other goodies, actually work! A real blast from the past:

4. I wish he had said "Is Lenore Annenberg a financer of terrorism?"
Why is the average DU reader better informed than the average TV talking head??? :grr:

5. u know I totally agree with that
I was just on think progress and Du and watching debate blog updates, bloggers were able to not only point out where McCain was erring or lying but also hotlink to the sites which proved he was wrong. I mean that is awesome. And as I was reading that stuff I just got frustrated because I wish Obama could have had the opportunity to say all those things right back in McCain's face but he wont. It isnt how he is running the campaign--but still. I wish he would. A lot of people dont get this info unless it is on MSM or from the candidates or their reps.

8. Tempting
but as Rachel just said I think that he is making calculations about what to spend his time countering and what to brush off. I think he is making the right calculations most of the time. McCain is trying to keep him on the defensive and he isn't having it. And he's winning, so he has the breathing room to spend more time doing what the people want and addressing their needs.

7. I have often wondered that too
When I am watching interviews like this I always come up with much more relevant questions just because I feel like I am more informed than these idiot talking heads on a lot of issues. I am not bragging or anything I just think it is true. I am sure anyone of you on DU are the same way. Maybe they don't care enough to ask a more probing question or get to the crux of what these campaign spokesmen are spinning. Also, why is it that these campaign spokesmen are all of 19 years old and totally clueless.

18. he drew the short straw
Tucker Bounds and whomever else they send out get routinely crushed, McCain's people serve him terribly. At this point, I think none of them want go anywhere near an interview.

14. A political creature accuses a politician of being a political creature
He is talking in circles-at once Obama will cast Ayers aside for political expedience but yet they demanded that Obama cast Rev.Wright aside

15. I think he deserves to be called by his real name-- he has more
than proven himself to be firmly on our side-- and he kicks butt all over the place-- in our favor.

19. Yep-- me too. What a contrast between him and Andrea Mitchell!
Matthews was grinning from ear to ear last night-- making pointed remarks about McLame in the debate--and his eyes were dancing. He was positively full of mirth. In contrast, I could barely hear what Andrea had to say (she looked so serious and her voice was so soft). Then, after her first few words when it was clear she thought McLame did great, I had to mute the volume. She knows damn well he didn't but she's stuck with defending the repugs. Isn't this FUN, Andrea??? :hi:

20. she's not bad sometimes
But she's still Mrs. Alan Greenspan, and nobody but the RW nuts think he's the same old wizard he once was supposed to be. McCain's espousing failed Greenspan-ish policies in a debate about economics, she sort of has to defend him a little, lol.

21. That makes sense, I suppose. I was always left with the impression
the she was very much pro-McCain in that she never appears to find anything objectionable about his ill-advised beliefs.
