Former three-term New York Governor Mario Cuomo addressed a conference on the state of the middle-class in New York City on 4/2. Although the specific topic was the middle-class in NYC, the issues confronting the middle-class in New York are essentially the same as faced by middle-class Americans across the country. This is an edited version that captures the main points of his keynote speech at the conference. This man would make an excellent president!

1. Cuomo on the struggles of the poor and middle-class under conservative rule
This is from his famous keynote speech at the 1984 DNC convention, with the applause edited out. What he said in 1984 about America under Reagan rings as true in 2007 about Bush's America. http://www.theartofrwfirestone.com/tempcuomo/MC84%20Reagan's%20Shining%20City.mp3

2. It's much worse under Bush than Reagan.
Reagan was full of it too, but no where near as Bush II.

Just think of how great things were just a few years back, now we have this turd "leading" us.

3. Yes
Reagan was the start of this when he fired the Air Traffic Controlers and it has gotten much, much worse under Bush II. I will say in his defense that at least St. Ronnie could speak in complete sentences.

5. We need to deliver this message to the people

It is a shame the Republicans have been able to divert the attention of many people from the real issue of the decline of the middle-class with trivial things such as school prayer, "the war on christmas", guns, etc. We Democrats must get enough voters to look at the real issues.
