7. Well my 1995 Chevy Astro just broke down.............
The starter went out on it. Took it off, put another one on. Now im ready to go another 190,534 miles. So much for the lie that The Big Three make crappy products. But we must hold on to our sterotypes, musn't we?
and they don't have too many tricks up their sleeves. You pretty much know how and who they are going to demonize. I can't see why we haven't been able to beat these frauds more often.
but in the 60s/70s is when Detroit shipped out crap, and the Japanese got a strong foothold based on quality and longevity at that time. It is hard to turn the Japanese car buyer around when they find and stick with a winner, like certain Honda's and Toyota's.
The design engineers caused the automakers the problem in the long run by making the Pinto and other lemons that did not stand the test of time.
9. I see plenty of old Japanese cars and old American cars
I've sold/traded in two 14-yr-old and one 12-yr-old foreign cars only due to body rust that all cars get in the snowbelt. I expect my 10-yr-old car to last for many more years. (I've always bought used)
Hondas have great resale value - noone is throwing them away after 5 years, nor would I expect anyone to throw away an American car after 5 years
If Ford made a Mustang or an F-150 that got 40 mpg they would have had enough money to weather this economic storm. And trust me they can. They just didn't want to. They're in bed with the oil comps.
