Prop 8—The Musical, a new music video satirizing Prop 8 — the California ballot proposition that amended the state Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to a union between a man and a woman — is now available for on-line viewing.

Conceived and written by Hairspray Tony winner Marc Shaiman, the three-minute video was directed and staged by Adam Shankman, who helmed the "Hairspray" movie musical.

The video also boasts an array of theatre and stage stars: The "California Gays and The People That Love Them" are played by Jordan Ballard, Margaret Cho, Barrett Foa, J.B. Ghuman, John Hill, Andy Richter, Maya Rudolph, Rashad Naylor and Nicole Parker.

The "Proposition 8'ers and The People That Follow Them" include John C. Reilly as Prop 8 Leader; Allison Janney as Prop 8 Leader's #1 Wife; Kathy Najimy as Prop 8 Leader's #2 Wife; Jenifer Lewis as Riffing Prop 8'er; Craig Robinson as A Preacher; and Rashida Jones, Lake Bell and Sarah Chalke as Scary Catholic School Girls From Hell.

Jack Black plays Jesus Christ and Neil Patrick Harris is a Very Smart Fellow with Katharine "Kooks" Leonard, Seth Morris, Denise "Esi!" Piane, Lucian Piane, Richard Read, Seth Redford, Quinton Strack and Tate Taylor as The Frightened Villagers.

Shankman, Shaiman (who is featured on piano) and Mike Farah produced the video, which was edited by Bradly Schulz and Drew Antzis.

i dunno if the 'besides, we can make money on it' ending was a message I'd pick to conclude on, but rest was terrific. would have liked to see them pick a little bit more at the hypocrisy - like blacks not being allowed to be priests at all in the Mormon religion till just 30 years ago (1978) and that women are not considered worthy to hold the authority of the priesthood in their 'church'. And yet, here they are judging others like they do.

I guess I assumed that because Kirk is a born-again Christian who's a creationist, he would also not participate in something that has Jack Black as Jesus, and would also likely be anti-gay.

This video would freak Kirk Cameron out and the solid reasoning and facts about all the weird stuff in the Bible would overload his brain.

Stop it at the 13 second mark or 14 second mark and you can see that is not him. I googled his name with Prop 8 and nothing came up.

It's too warm and fuzzy - need something with more edge. Perhaps we could channel the 'Divine' a cooler way:)

Imagine the cast of characters he would assemble to play the same parts in this video. He's already had Jesus portrayed being dragged off to the cross with crown of thorns in one of his early films, I think. Divine playing the Virgin Mary, of course.
