I am a Southerner, born in North Carolina, lived many years in Virginia now, as well as Germany, Hawaii, Georgia, Texas, Kentucky, and South Carolina. I travel a lot and my wife is Eastern European. I have been around, seen a lot of the world. One thing I have discovered is that wherever you go, someone will be dissatisfied with their neighbors and agitating against them. It's true in Europe and I've seen it first hand in the Americas and Asia. At the same time, the opposite is true, people have a lot in common also. In this fiscal debate we are now embroiled in, we must keep in mind who our allies are and who the adversaries are. To attempt to paint folks in a negative manner with a broad brush of regionalism only plays into the hands of those who seek to divide us. That has always been their design, to confuse people with the politics of distraction. The fellow on this video presents as surely angry, but I would argue that he refine and define his anger, look at the class and political differences driving the circumstance we find ourselves in, and focus on who the real enemy of his positions are. There are a lot of us down south who are liberal, progressive, and even vote Democratic. It just seems odd to me that one would belittle war, and in closing, declare war on someone. I for one will keep my eye on the those who would seek to thwart progressivism. I only hope that many would support such a position. Peace!
