3. But doesn't that violate some health code?
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 09:30 PM by Taverner
When your body breaks down and becomes liquid, it's not a very clean process

8. With my plan I'd have a problem with using my cellphone for help
But I would probably be outside my roaming area and the charges would be brutal.
Although with free weekend minutes I could wait until Saturday to call for help

5. Try a Safety Coffin -- long history of people worrying about being buried alive
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 09:38 PM by Donnachaidh
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_coffin

A safety coffin or security coffin is a coffin fitted with a mechanism to prevent premature burial or allow the occupant to signal that he has been buried alive. A large number of designs for safety coffins were patented during the 18th and 19th centuries and variations on the theme are still available today.

:snip:

The first recorded safety coffin was constructed on the orders of Duke Ferdinand of Brunswick before his death in 1792. He had a window installed to allow light in, an air tube to provide a supply of fresh air, and instead of having the lid nailed down he had a lock fitted. In a special pocket of his shroud he had two keys, one for the coffin lid and a second for the tomb door.

6. This is where cremation becomes a good thing.
There are too many horror stories from the middle ages of people been buried alive (as told by body snatchers, a most reliable source, who saw the scratch marks underneath the lids of coffins).

7. "Sorry I can't answer the phone right now, as I am dead."
I can't imagine someone calling my dad as we put him into the ground. I would have been horrified. Then again if it is part of a person's last wishes. Are people leaving voice mail recordings before they die? That is odd.

12. I want a coffin shaped like a cell phone
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 10:44 AM by formercia
like they do in some parts of Africa, where the deceased is buried in a casket representative of their lifestyle or wishes of one.

It should display this number: 733 968 4355

Some ideas already considered:

15. Something similar...
Cremated, then ashes used in planting tree in a forest.
Can't find the site...

Did find one for turning ashes into diamonds. I'm sorry, but that's just...creepy. :yoiks:
IMHO.

14. I user to have recurring nightmares about that
When I was about ten, I read some accounts of people buried alive and for years afterward, I had recurring nightmares about the possibility (it doesn't help that I suffer from ASP, a condition that occasionally causes temporary paralysis while waking). At one point, I was determined that I would be buried with an oxygen tank and a cellphone. Now, I just have a clause in my will (unenforceable but hopefully someone will listen) requesting that people make quite certain that I'm dead, preferably by inflicting some kind of very terminal injury.

16. You should watch the Mythbusters episode on the subject.
It will make you want to get cremated.
The Soviet GRU (Military Intelligence)was known to bury people alive. Normally they would put people in the oven feet-first while still alive but one discredited GRU officer stated that he preferred to be buried in a coffin. He got his wish. When he awoke, he was already in his coffin, underground.
