The other aspect though is that ever since the rise of Movement Conservatism the economic orthodoxy in this country's discourse has shifted so far to the right that if you don't add in something that is radically wrong to bills like this it'll get ripped in the media and RWers start hijacking the debate on it. Then votes and support evaporate. We need to just crush the devil and move on, instead we feed him a little bit here and a little bit there, so that even when Dems are in charge he stays alive.
3. The problem: the Democratic Leadership Council. They are pro-corporate and pro-wealthy
Obama will not be able to get his package through if THEY (yes, the "Democrats") hold it up. The DLC is basically Republican fiscally and when it comes to the war. Don't blame good Democrats like Kucinich.
