39. Thank goodness for YouTube b/c I had to scroll back several times just to catch up, so
many and various are the crimes of Bush.

And the little turd will just tap dance off to Dallas whining about how he'll be a beloved president someday, "just like Lincoln."

15. I HOPE our new ambassadors will speak the language of the country they're assigned
Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 01:58 AM by lebkuchen
unlike Bush's ambassadors, who communicated instantly to the rest of the world, "We don't care what you think. We're doing it our way, and so are you."

I also HOPE to see accountability in the WH. So far we've seen two impeachments and a pardon of a president who committed crimes that were harmful to our country. Those crimes have gotten worse. Reagan's crimes were worse than Nixon's, and Bush's crimes were worse than all of those prior combined.

If the buck stops with Obama, Obama had better ensure that it also stops with his predecessor, whose disaster Obama is inheriting. What's fair is fair. Why not apply the rule of law to everyone in the WH for a change?

21. So, he's saying Bush could have done a better job?
Actually, no. I think those of us who paid attention to Bush's record before he entered the White House see the same pattern repeated. He screws up everything he puts his hand to. After 9/11, when Giuliani was saying, "Thank God George Bush is President," I was thinking, "Oh no, he's gonna screw this up, too."

Bush's biggest failures were from inaction. Katrina? He fiddled while New Orleans drowned. (Okay, maybe he was pretending to play a guitar at that photo op.) Iraq? Failed to plan for what happens after the second week. Terrorism prior to 9/11? No retaliation for the USS Cole, no get tough speeches on terrorism, no high-level meetings on terrorism, goes on vacation for a month, doesn't pay attention to nor question intelligence briefings on terrorism, doesn't respond with anything close to strength when a Chinese fighter harrasses and crashes into an American spy plane in international airspace. 9/11 itself? Sits on his smarts for seven minutes (419 seconds longer than any other President would have). Financial markets? Wouldn't regulate, and wouldn't enforce existing regulations.

And a host of other serious problems were just ignored for eight years.

22. When looked at in its entirety
the thought that no one will be held accountable for this is nauseating. Not prosecuting Bush will actually result in more damage than Bush himself has done. Laws must mean something in this country. Allowing these criminal to go unpunished reinforces every criminal inclination. We must "look back" to "look forward", otherwise this country is done.

23. Thank God it's O-V-E-R!!!
And let's NEVER EVER EVER do this again!!!

What were the American people THINKING voting this guy in TWICE???? I know the election was stolen - but if it wasn't so close, then they couldn't have fudged (and screwed with it) to ultimately have it go to the Supreme Court. Why the heck was it so close? And then with Kerry - I was sure the people would have woken up by then... so freaking sad. What a horrible 8 years.

27. the silver lining
is that those elections, as far as I know, are the only two elections in our history that are legitimately contended. One of the things I hope the Obama administration will do is ban electronic voting machines, or have a federal agency manufacture, program, distribute and guard the machines.

I sobbed my heart out for my nation.
And I would like to lock all the "republican" members of my family in a room and force them to watch this.

59. I suppose I might add a p.s. The tears were so surprisingly spontaneous that
I was caught off=guard and really began to sob.

I had been watching and mesmerized by Keith's strong litany of Bush offenses.
And I was getting more and more angry.

Then, it was as if a dam broke. All I could think of was.... WE'RE FREE! We lived through this horrible mess and ... WE'RE FREE.

I know it seems silly now, but it felt so good and so bad at the same time.
I was overcome with a sense of sadness at the utter waste of the last eight years.
I saw where I was when it started and how angry I was about the election and then Enron kaboom ruins energy prices in California.
And then I was about to move to Vermont, and I was still in CA when I heard Jim Jeffords call out Bush and change party affiliation. I was happy to be moving to a state where people speak their minds with civility.
I gave up television, found DU, and actually became much more involved than I ever had been in my whole life as a Californian... and I'd always thought myself "involved."

And waves of life and death and birth and all that have transpired. And the horrors that have been perpetrated by these people who were supposed to SERVE.

Well, we lived through it. Most. But all those tombstones began to swim in front of my eyes.
I still post the numbers of Americans dead and wounded in Iraq, plus the number of Iraqi civilians -- on an 8x10 paper taped to my rear window.
I'm not taking it down unti we leave Iraq.

Still, I cried because I am relieved that's it's over and I'm ready and willing to help put us right.

So, to amend my sobbing note.... sad and happy... angry and joyful.....ready to HOPE and HELP
