5. Simple Gifts
Why didn't they just play the last movement to Copland's "Appalachian Spring" instead of yet another imitation by the shameless John Williams.

Just askin'....

That being said, the artists performing (as opposed to the non-artist who wrote the music) did an amazing job...out in that cold.

And one can wake up to music like that all the time. There are 4 centuries of classical music to chose from (Williams steals from them all), and no one sounds the same. (Yes, after a while you CAN tell Mozart from Haydn)

8. Oh, stop being such a snob Du! Was soll denn das?
I thoroughly enjoyed Williams' arrangement. I hope to find a better recording, knowing how little I could hear from what was actually being performed. Nonetheless, the goosebumps appeared. Did you check Yo-Yo's happy face? Izzy was so enjoying the shit out of it all.

Anthony, McGill, clarinetist, is a hot young thang from Curtis whom Jimmy tapped for 1st at The Met. I'm SO in LOVE! ;loveya: THAT is how a clarinet should sound. (It was my first wind instrument.)

AND, if you haven't already, GO TO GABRIELA MONTERO'S HOMEPAGE. GO DIRECTLY TO HER HOME PAGE. Do not tarry lest you face a fine. http://www.gabrielamontero.com/

:woohoo: Whatta gal! :woohoo: You'll hear "Mephisto's Waltz No.1 which is, erraaa... never mind. You listen and decide for yourself...

13. Well when the world has had so many amazing artists like
Copeland, the lazy like Williams will steal and claim it has their own. Did Williams even acknowledge Copeland? I mean it was really obvious wasn't it?

6. That was kinda neat.
Better sound than I expected.

The crazy part was the big smiles on their faces.

I'm not used to that with classical musicians.

9. Cultchur is just what our country needs!
Thanks so much for sharing - I know only half of the artists - will get to know the other half!

I think we so under-value the arts in this country - I have heard it rumored that Obama intends to create/appoint ??? a Department of the Arts.

:applause:

15. That was my favorite part of the inauguration.
My 7 year old loved it too; he watched it all at school, and asked me who the piano player was, since he also plays piano.

The wind instrument (is that clarinet? I'm ignorant.) was breathtaking, and the expressions on Yo-Yo Ma's face added so much to the enjoyment.

All splendid.
