4. Yeah, but ...
Fox "News" viewers seem to have done a little bit better than average; and if I worked for CNN, I wouldn't boast about coming in so far behind Comedy Central.

15. I just object to misrepresenting the survey
To simply say that Fox "News" viewers are ill-informed doesn't come close to presenting the data in a "Fair and Balanced™" fashion.

Remember, the highest score for naming the Sunnis is a whopping 52%! Fox's score of 32% is bad, but is right in line with the national average! and CNN's score of 38% just isn't all that much better.

To my way of thinking, all of the media audiences are depressingly ill-informed.

9. Why are NPR's numbers so low?
Only 51% can identify Putin? That's just plain weird, unless they're the ones that only listen to Car Talk.

6. Quite a difference between men and women
The chart shows that 45% of men have high knowledge level of current affairs vs only 25% of women.

What explains this difference?

When I think of the political conversations I've overheard in the workplace, it is usually men who are trying to tell others how to think. There seems to be an implication that those with more knowledge have more of a right to disperse their viewpoints. And there is a desire by many to know what the hell these people are talking about so you can tell them whether they are right or wrong. It becomes a game with a competitive edge to it. I suspect men generally tend to be more authoritarian than women, and are more apt to study politics so that they can participate in the lunchtime debates.

8. I REGECT THIS STORY
fox news did not make me stupid i was stupid before i turned on the tv
some people think bush is stupid and to them i say, okay, but he is the commander
then they say he only has 28% popularity, but if you add it up over 4 years that is nearly 100%
just because you don't know that the al'kiheeda and hussain worked together on 911, don't blame us
sunni? sheeeite? to me they are all illegal aliens, and should be sent back to whereever they followed us home from
in closing, i want to give my complete support to the president, many of you don't know but he and i have the same favorite books:
the bible (coloring book children version) the hungary caterpiller (love the surprize ending) and
the paris hilton story (specially where she catches the cow)

10. It may not be that Fox News makes you stupid
Much of it is undoubtedly that "stupid" people like to watch Fox and other major networks because they are designed to be entertaining and easy to digest. They probably switch it to Fox and then go about their daily business - kind of like a media player with visualization.

13. There's some truth to what you say
Notice that the "Fox News Channel" has the lowest percentage of college graduates:

However, that's not the whole story:
... differences in background characteristics and overall news habits do not explain all of the differences in knowledge across news audiences. Even after taking into account their overall news gathering habits and their political and demographic characteristics, the audiences for the comedy shows, The O'Reilly Factor, the web sites of national newspapers, and NPR all have significantly higher knowledge scores than the average.
