I saw this on the PBS newshour last night. Folks, this is a great organization and Jon Soltz does a great job in this clip of tearing apart right-wing talking points!

Is that woman related to Ann Coulter? (Watch the video and see what I'm talking about).

1. She's obviously a repuke shill
When Soltz rightly said Bush wouldn't serve in Viet Nam (and even the rwing has to concede Bush checked the box declining Viet Nam service - its a part of his NG record that still exists), she moaned. And didn't I hear her say that it IS about protecting Bush?

4. I saw it too
Soltz did a really good job.

Melanie Morgan was awful; no facts, rude, 100% talking points.

5. From SourceWatch:
Melanie Morgan is MAF chairman and a columnist for WorldNetDaily, author of the book America Mourning, and also a conservative radio talk personality at KSFO in San Francisco, California.

Melanie Morgan gained national notoriety in the summer of 2006 when she suggested that Bill Keller, an editor of the New York Times, be killed in a "gaschamber" for the crime of "treason" after the Times' reporting on US government spying on Americans.

8. Yes she did.
The only thing I can figure is that, subconsciously, because she knows the Iraqi government is failing (even if she can't consciously express that thought), she calls it "Democrat."

Weird, I know.

10. Damnit, he could have done so much better.
The only response to the assertion that 'Bush listens to his generals' should be "Name one whose strategic advice he took."

I should do some research, can some responses, send them out and hope the Dems and the level-heads use them. Right now, the Dems need to start controlling the conversations. It's not a hard thing to do, it just means asking the right questions. The above may not be perfect, but the point is to put the many flaws of the Bush-bots on wide display. That should be a cake-walk with everything there is to work with.

This must be done throughout the media.

Democrats have a chance to literally sweep this bunch of assholes out of power. I have no illusions that they will always be lawful, but the chance to restore some balance to this out of control government is worth one party rule for a while.

12. This is what that horrible woman's lobbying group is about
Move America Forward (MAF) is a conservative 501c3 not-for-profit organization formed in early 2004 by Howard Kaloogian and "acclaimed radio and television personality" Melanie Morgan (KSFO 560 AM -- San Francisco) <1> and headed by California Republican activists, talk show hosts and staff members of the public relations firm Russo Marsh & Rogers, which has strong ties to the Republican Party.

According to its website, MAF "is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization committed to supporting America's efforts to defeat terrorism and supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces." <2> MAF identifies their domestic opponents as "self-loathing liberal journalists and 'Blame America First' politicians" (June 29, 2005 email, titled "The War at Home - in America").

Melanie Morgan has an email address with the Russo Marsh & Rogers PR firm:

19. I thought that 501(c)3 orgs could not engage in political
activity. According to the IRS website, even the leaders are suposed to make sure that their views are identified as personal

Individual Activity by Organization Leaders

The political campaign activity prohibition is not intended to restrict free expression on political matters by leaders of organizations speaking for themselves, as individuals. Nor are leaders prohibited from speaking about important issues of public policy. However, for their organizations to remain tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3), leaders cannot make partisan comments in official organization publications or at official functions.

To avoid potential attribution of their comments outside of organization functions and publications, organization leaders who speak or write in their individual capacity are encouraged to indicate clearly that their comments are personal and not intended to represent the views of the organization.

20. You're sort of right
they are not SUPPOSED to engage in political activities. This group is an "astro-turf" org created by a right-wing lobbying company to spout their venom and bullshit in support of right-wing crap.

Of course, in this jingoistic country any bunch of yahoos spouting their "support" for the troops is given a pass.

They should be reported to the IRS and stripped of their 501(c)(3) status. But they won't be.

23. I think she should go fight.
Why isn't she enlisted, she wants to "win the peace" so much. Wait, if she was in Iraq, she wouldn't be able to get new fat puffed into her lips. That would be a real hardship for sure.
