1. I saw this about 10 years ago...

...when a friend of mine returned from England with some comedy dvds and it cracked me up then just as it does now. It pretty much sums up the strategy used by the wing-nuts to discredit anything.

Beautiful.

His, "Women, know your limits" videos are also great.

Edit to add "Tory Boy", another excellent piece on the conservative mindset:

2. He's brilliant.
I see you spent a couple of decades in Europe. I am sadly attached to the states now. But I don't belong here. Never have. I spend my time in European forums, where people are well above my abilities. Both social and scholastic. When the BBC was running Harry Enfield, the Fast Show, and a few others, I was enthralled. I absolutely loved it.

I'm curious why you returned to the states.

I watched this last night. More genius.

3. It's a long story...
...and there were several unrelated reasons for my returning to the U.S. (Florida), but the main reason was because my father was diagnosed with mesothelioma and I didn't want to be half a world away. I studied medicine in Germany (for free) and wanted to be here to do what I could for him. He's finished his chemo and is actually doing quite well now, as he was diagnosed very early. I'm now living in L.A. helping out a friend who is...well, that's a long story too. I've posted about it on this site and must do an update with another call to arms because there have been some new developments. I'm quite happy in L.A. for the most part. I do miss my girlfriend, who is still in Berlin and will be doing her PhD in Canada.

Here's the post:

For many months I've been trying to find Enfield's Jazz Club, but without success. Today I gave it some real effort and, low and behold, I found it! I don't know if you've seen this one, but it always brings tears to my eyes. This is Enfield at his best and my personal favourite. Check it out:

Oh my god, if you only knew. I have wanted to see that one bit with the Dizzy Gillepsie parody for years. As a trumpet player, and someone who actually got to see Dizzy, I died watching that. GRrreat!

Paul Whitehouse on congas is too much.

They really have a formula.

Well thanks for sharing with me. I signed the 6034 petition. There's a lot of injustice in this world. I keep thinking how tragic life is. I recently lost my beloved cats. Both a bit too early. Even two years later, I find it hard to shake the sadness. Or the innocent on death row. All I know is the sentiment of the leadership of this country is in synch with the human condition. There's no doubt. I often think that much, if not all, of what happens here is for a reason. Sometimes it is obvious, often in retrospect. I have my own battles. I've taken on the world's biggest problems. Now I'm trying to just create my own world within it, and try to find some happiness. I wish you the best.

When I see things like the skits that Enfield creates, I feel that there is something that transcends our condition. I've been trying to learn what it is. Jon Stewart and his crew have discovered it as well. I believe it's a combination of education, language skills, memory, ability to abandon the ego. Hm, that's not trivial stuff. Haha.

Edit- I've been sucked into the quicksand of Youtube. Art Blakey, Les Brown, Modern Jazz Quartet, Stan Getz... I just had to share one of my favorites.

5. I'm so glad you liked it.
Now I know why I couldn't find it. It wasn't from Enfield's show. Somehow I got the two confused.

I know what you mean about sadness. My cat, Maria, died after 20 years last November. I really knew her longer than anyone else and miss her. She was really great and very funny.

Thanks for signing the petition. The class action will be going forward on the 20th here in L.A. and I'm hoping it will finally be over with.
