Mary Matalin: Newt Gingrich, Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh Exemplify Conservatism
By Heather Monday May 11, 2009 5:30am

http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/heather/mary-matalin-newt-gingrich-dick-cheney-and

KING: Mary, I want to start with you. If you look at the Sunday talk show landscape this morning, you'll see John McCain, Newt Gingrich, and your friend and old boss, Dick Cheney. And as we showed in our last segment, the cover of Time magazine this week is "Endangered Species." As you know, on the left, they're having a field day with the Sunday lineup, saying, great, if that's the face of the Republican Party, more of it. Let's have more to it, specifically to the point of the former vice president.

You know the debate he has stirred up over the past several weeks, beginning right here on "State of the Union." Helpful or hurtful for the Republican Party for Dick Cheney to be out there so much?

MATALIN: Well, if you consider the -- as I do, as most conservative do -- that Republicanism and conservativism are not necessarily synonymous, that when Republicans aspire and ascend is when they go back to what they do best, which is radical reform and being a party of ideas, as they did post-'64, as they did post-'92. When you have the people who best exemplify and represent those ideas getting (ph) and articulating them, like Newt Gingrich and Vice President Cheney, then that's a good thing.

You'll note whenever the Democrats attack Dick Cheney for being out or what he's saying, they never attack the ideas. There's never an answer for what he's speaking about, it's always just a personal attack.

Specifically, and I'm sure he's speaking even as we speak now about how really damaging and dangerous it was for this president to release the legal memos on the EITs, on the enhanced interrogation techniques. Very dangerous, very bad precedent and will come back to haunt this president.

So rather than have an argument about that, there's a personal attack on Dick Cheney, which means there's no argument against the ideas, which goes to what the Republicans need to do, which is to quit being an echo as Goldwater said, really the godfather of the conservatives and present a clear choice.

11. Bingo
Why spend time debating arguments that have already been debunked and proven wrong repeatedly from many different angles? Nothing that woman said has a basis in reality. She doesn't even believe what she just said.

Oh and Rush IS a drug addict!

That may be the only fact stated in the entire video.

4. I'm soooo sick of this crap on TV

...where they pit a really extreme rethug against a moderate sounding Dem, and imply that the 'reasonable' middle is part-way in between.

Imagine if a pro-Nazi Fox network (redundant?) had existed during the Nuremburg trials? They would have had an international law specialist on, vs. a Nazi party apologist. If you thought they shouldn't let the Nazi talk, you would be branded a Liberal, and your viewpoint written off. No one wold be convicted of anything, because the results would "appear to be politically motivated."

ENOUGH. CNN needs to SEE that this woman (the rethug) and those like her represent WAY less that 50% of the electorate. Still they get more than 50% of the airtime. This is WARPED.

This media dissolution into nothing but steaming piles of propagandistic poo makes me so damned angry, I can hardly breathe!

I avoid teevee as much as possible and don't have cable, so that helps manage my blood pressure to some extent.

anyway.....

7. I have to say I do agree with Matalin.
All of these men exemplify what conservatism stands for.

Newt Gingrich abandoned his cancer stricken wife and had an affair while he was still married. This is a great example of GOP values, morals, and their commitment to what's right.

Dick Cheney asked for and received 5 deferments when it came time for him to serve his country. This shows the GOP attitude of how everyone else must do the dirty work, and their service to their country is limited to things where they don't have to suffer any, and they get paid well for it.

Rush Limbaugh is an unhappy, overweight, bigoted hypocrite with a drug abuse problem. He wants America to fail, and doesn't mind saying so. He doesn't care that many of his listeners would be personally impacted if America did fail. He hates everyone, including himself. He's the perfect example of the GOP's "do as we say, not as we do" attitude.

Matalin is right. They are all excellent examples of today's Republican Party. I'm not sure why they act like they're happy about that, but perhaps that's the best example of all. This is all they've got. These 3 people truly are the finest examples of Republican leadership there are.

Pathetic, disgusting, and disgraceful are also good words to describe the GOP today.

8. so she says -
but actually, we ARE attacking the idea that torture could be embraced by an American administration - we ARE attacking the idea that gross violations of the Geneva conventions make us safer - we ARE attacking the concept of an imperial presidency. And while we are attacking these ideas, one person calls Cheney a dickwad, and they all pounce on THAT and pretend we never mentioned the crimes the dickwad committed.

10. Mary Matalin, The NeoCon Mouth Piece is married to WHO ?
James Carville !

I'd sure like to know what Carville and Matalin had in common besides being attack dogs
for their particular ideologies. Lets face it D.U,ers, Something has always stunk about this union.

Which one of us here at Democratic Underground would be willing to take a quick jaunt over
to Free Republic in search of a freeper life partner ?
And please, by all means come back to us and share the wonderful conversations
and romantic small talk which caused you to fall in love with a Free Republic Freeper !

19. I have a 'friend' who is a Republican...
He literally hates anyone who disagrees with him on anything. Merely disagreeing with him makes his face turn red and causes him to quake with anger. He listens to Limbaugh, Beck and Savage religiously.

Hate and anger blinds a person, clouds their thinking, and poisons their integrity. Once a person reaches that state, I'm not so sure it can ever be undone.

22. Something about their brains
just isn't wired right. Its beyond comprehension to me. I have strong opinions, but my mind is open to new ideas. Once these people latch onto an idea or belief, it becomes frozen in their pathetic heads.

25. You sure seem to have “Experience” ...
that I do not share with the Neo-Con mind.

You stated that, “My sister is married to a staunch conservative”
You went on to say that “I have a 'friend' who is a Republican.”

Unfortunately it seems as though you've picked up some nasty habits from these
relationships. You are attempting to project what you claim to be unacceptable
behavior and beliefs upon someone you do not know based on a single post and
your intimate knowledge on how “Conservatives” Think.

As for hate, Let me clue you in on something here sister

I don't “Hate” anybody, But if I did, If my feelings towards those who call themselves
“Conservatives” seems to be out of proportion to you then I might suggest that you haven't
been paying very close attention to what your sisters husband or your friend have been up to
the past eight years.

It IS NOT , My shallowness nor my disgust that has caused nearly the entire world to hate
me simply because I am an American. That fault lies solidly with your sisters husband and your friend.
It's also not appropriate to project these “Conservative Traits” that you seem to be aware of unto others
that you do not know.

I've pointed out a legitimate concern about the Matlin/Carvile relationship.

I've also stated in my opinion that I for one can not understand what I (A Liberal), would have in common with much less to Marry a person who thinks the poor are a nuisance, That Blacks are evil, That the Constitution is simply a piece of paper and nothing more, That War is the first in not the only option with countries who may disagree with me, That Torture is acceptable, That spying on our
own people is acceptable, That turning the Justice Dept. into a political tool is acceptable....

I could go on for weeks, but I wont, Cause the fact is, Your wrong and you know it:toast: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

15. For one, Goldwater long ago repudicated GOP for their connections to
religious right, among other things --

Second, anywhere you look -- or have looked over the last 8 years -- there is explicit
criticism of Dick Cheney, his agenda, his specific actions.

is an attack dog just like Coulter, Limbaugh. Savage, Ingram..on and on. They work for the RNC on a constant basis. They're anything but conservative. Dick Cheney's ideas are to install a permanent republican regime like when he was president. James was funny on Bill Maher. "Republicans are are pretty vicious"..."just a lot meaner people than we are" he should know.
