3. and if anyone "needs a door opened to higher education" -it's ASU
with a 92% acceptance rate and a 2.5 GPA requirement.

Aside from how "red" it is down here, I don't think I've ever been more ashamed to be a born and raised native Arizonan the day I heard ASU's reasoning behind not giving Obama a degree; "it's just too soon to tell if he had accomplished anything worthwhile" I guess President of the Harvard Review, graduating magna cume laud from Harvard Law, and, oh I don't know, FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENT OF A COUNTRY THAT HAS A HISTORY OF BRUTALLY OPPRESSING AFRICAN AMERICANS ... are things ASU doesn't find impressive; I'm not surprised these standards come from an "esteemed" university like ASU.

Quick side note; one person ASU granted a honorary degree to once was a former prime minister of Canada who held office for less than 100 days when she received the degree ASU refused to give to Obama. I'll pretend none of this is political and ASU actually values academic achievement.

7. I think that
it is one of his best ones.
I can't imagine how he is going to top it at the Notre Dame commencement.

must confess to getting a bit teary in parts....
as a 60 yo recent graduate trying to find my way...
his reframing of the challenges gives me hope.
