A mixture of anger and apathy are greeting a special election in California. Voters were being asked to decide a complicated slate of ballot propositions designed to keep the state from sliding further toward financial calamity. All of the propositions failed except one that prevented legislative pay raises.

2. this gov't (california) is so broke that the legislature votes itself a raise
and the measures were meant to CUT $$ for children and disabled and give it to the governor. I voted no. It was an informed decision, not a kneejerk reaction. The gov't (which still gave the legislature a raise this year) can find a better way to handle the crisis. If a family is in crisis, it's not the baby's milk that you throw out the door is it? No...it's the luxuries that are cut. Until the government shows some responsibility, no cuts to NEEDED services.
