In this clip, Inhofe doesn't want to close Gitmo, so he claims we wouldn't be able to handle the people there. The interviewer, to her credit, actually pursues this ridiculous claim and makes him "defend" his line of thought. Hilarity ensues.

I don't feel sorry for them. They vote these idiots in and they get what they deserve.

It would be (somewhat but not entirely) different if these guys were casting votes that only affected Oklahoma.

I truly feel for any Democrat living in that State.

In other words, he like his compatriot torture apologists, know that we aren't going to be able to convict the grand majority of these alleged "terrorists" in our justice system. This is the heart of the matter for them (and why they're putting on such a full court press on this issue). It's about them knowing that we have held many of these men for several years without so much as a shred of real evidence that they are terrorists or even criminals. They know that if these men get put into our justice system where they have to be given a speedy trial, that the whole operation that "required" housing detainees at Gitmo in the first place is going to be blown open for the sham and scam that it's been from the beginning. If they thought that we could convict these men, if they are in fact "the worst of the worst" as we've all been told ad naseum, this wouldn't be an issue at all. God forbid we have to let innocent men and women that we've detained for years go if we can't use a kangaroo court to convict them by changing the rules of jurisprudence to be completely geared toward a 100% conviction rate (which is what the military tribunals are). We need to call these criminals to task and I'm rapidly losing all of the hope I had during the campaign that there will be any accountability for these or any of the other myriad of atrocities committed by the Bush administration.
