Their idol, Ronnie the two bit actor, appealed directly to the Republican's base of Southern racists after the Democrats lost the South due to their support of civil rights. Ronnie, just like every Republican, would gladly sell their soul for a few bucks. Ronnie the phony, quit the Democratic Party when the broken down hack studio actor became the spokesman for General Electric and immediately transformed himself from a staunch supporter of FDR and unions into an enemy of all that he had previously claimed to support. Any thing for a buck as he ushered in the era of unrestrained greed as Republicans worked tirelessly to dismantle every regulation that has brought us to bankruptcy and made multi-millionaires of incompetent CEOs. Thanks Republicans; I can only hope that you become victims of your own greed.
