MSNBC Countdown w/ KEITH OLBERMANN - June 1, 2009: 'FOX News (Bill O'Reilly) incited Dr. George Tiller's Murder'

KEITH: "Finally, tonight our No. 1 story, and the very serious, very unsettling part the Fox News Channel played in the assassination of Dr. George Tiller. The horrifying realization that a television figure can be a facilitator for domestic terrorism."

"This was underscored, proved, even, today, when a man named Frank Schaeffer wrote for The Huffington Post that, as a former member of the anti-abortion activist far right, he believes he 'shares the blame for the murder of Dr. Tiller,' as we believe here does Fox News Channel."

KEITH: "Of course, in this case, the murderer clearly heard the words from Fox News Channel, or in the most benign of constructions, read the words of those who had heard the words from Fox News Channel. There is a comment thread from the Operation Rescue website from April and May 2007 - I am not implying these other posters had a hand in this, these are merely comments from readers about an anti-Tiller prayer event in Wichita. It begins with a post from April 6 asking: 'Has Bill O'Reilly been invited to any of the Tiller events and if so what has been his reply? Has Fox News covered any of the events?' There are two subsequent answers echoing the invitation. And then there is the ninth post from May 19th, 2007, which reads: 'Bleass (sic) everyone for attending and praying in May to bring justice to Tiller and the closing of his death camp.' That was posted by Scott Roeder. Scott Roeder is the name of the suspected terrorist who was arrested yesterday for assassinating Dr. George Tiller.

And what were the kinds of things he and or those around him heard about Dr. Tiller from Fox News?"

AUDIO CLIPS -

BILL O'REILLY: "Killing Babies in America - that's the subject of this evening's Talking Points Memo."
"For $5,000 'Tiller the Baby Killer,' as some call him, will perform a late-term abortion for just about any reason."

- snip -
"You should be very disturbed by what continues to happen in Kansas. This man, Dr. George Tiller, known as 'Tiller the Baby Killer,' is performing late-term abortions without defining the specific medical reasons why."
LAURA INGRAHAM: "Dr. George Tiller, who is one of the few doctors in the United States who performs the 'Hitlerian procedure known as partial-birth abortion."

- snip -

KEITH: "For four years on at least 28 occasions, that was what was said on Fox News Channel - Nazism, al Qaeda, Hitler, Mao Tse-Tung, Stalin, baby-killing, pedophilia, 'Tiller the Baby Killer,' again and again and again. And tonight, confronted with the inevitable result of the instigation, the principle perpetrator at Fox News Channel made no acknowledgement of culpability, nor even regret."

1. This was inevitable.
http://tvnewslies.org/html/bill_o_reilly.html

Bill O'Reilly is a home grown terrorist whose evil rhetoric led to the death of Dr. Tiller. He has been allowed to spread his filth with impunity. This is the inevitable result of the uncontrolled evil of right wing media. This is not the first or the last death caused by these extremists who reach millions of blind followers.

http://tvnewslies.org warned us years ago.

5. Here's the comment I wrote on YouTube
I thought Bill O'Reilly would do as so many hard-Right people on Free Republic have done: Condemn this doctor's murder, because pro-life people are against the taking of ANY human life.

But O'Reilly's callous, unfeeling response to this hideous crime sickens me to no end. I'm no fan of Fox News, but I thought even they had more decency than this.

-----------------

I don't know why, but I have a really, really bad feeling about this issue. I know Keith has taken risks before, like standing up to the Bush administration, but even the Bush cabal isn't as batshit crazy as Fox and Followers.

Taking on Fox and the anti-choice psychos simultaneously, right after this heinous crime...I hope I'm just overreacting, but I'm very, very worried and concerned about all this.

6. Fox News (sic) DOES insight home grown domestic terrorism.
And so does hate speech radio.

At the very least, Congress should reenact the fairness doctrine or some equivalent.

11. Where is the corporate media taking us?
Down the toilet I answer! I long for Walter Cronkite, but I get Glenn Beck and company. We need objectivity, not ratings grabbing, sensationalism "reality" drama in our news. It is a shame that "personalities" like El Rush bo, Glenn Beck, he who can not be named, Shawn Hannity and others dominate news cycles with ever increasing outrageousness and news papers with some real journalist and real reporting are dying. Let's throw the bums out (metaphorically speaking)! Who's with me?
