MSNBC The Rachel Maddow Show - 3 June 2009: Manuel Miranda says Hispanics "not like African-Americans, and we think just like everybody else."

“Hispanic polls, Hispanic surveys, indicate that Hispanics think just like everyone else. We’re not like African-Americans. We think just like everybody else. When I was on the leader’s staff, someone called me once and asked me: ‘What’s Senator Frist’s Hispanic agenda?’ I said, ‘low taxes, better education, more jobs … what are you talking about?’ And that’s how Hispanics are. This is an opportunity to educate them on all of our issues and they will resonate in the way that they resonate with everyone else.”

OK, so he's saying that African American voters want to know what they will get for free, and Hispanics (and the rest of us) just want government to get out of the way. But then he negates that, though it's worded in a way he obviously thinks discounts my inference, by saying that he got a call from "someone (presumably an Hispanic)" who wants to know what's in it for Hispanics, aka what can I get for free? Stupid man.

I'd say that it's a wonder that anyone does live speaking, it's fraught with opportunities to err, but they do it in press releases that are presumably written by professionals. As for air time, they just don't seem to be able to help themselves.

oooh. Someone's racism is showing. I hope his future opponent makes a copy of that statement.

will do or say anything to be accepted by conservatives or some white people but no matter what they say or do they are still viewed as a border crosser. Rush Limbaugh and individuals of his ideology will never accept minorities...

Sorry, but I think that ship sailed. Which is not to say that Hispanics are universally GOP material, but then most WASPs aren't either.

Cubans are a minority among U.S. Hispanics and, certainly, not representative of those from Puerto Rico, the other islands or South and Central America.

The first thing a Salvadoran friend asked was whether Sotomayor was Cuban. "No? Then she's probably O.K.." I doubt he, or any of my other Hispanic friends, would have the same favorable feeling about the token Cuban Republican who claims to speak for them. Too many of them lived under the brand of RW, fascist, feudal government the Cuban expatriates would restore to the island in a heartbeat - if they were given the opportunity and full use of our armed forces.

Cubans like Miranda were dispossessed of their lands and much of their wealth by Castro and, despite the embargo against Cuba, they're doubly pissed that he's made a go of things and that life for the workers they left behind ("their" workers) is, generally, pretty decent.

That's all I'd like to know. Why do people keep putting microphones in front of these dumb bastard's pieholes????

Mr. Miranda, you have the right to remain silent. You really ought to exercize it right now. Any thing you say may be used against you in the court of public opinion. You have the right to a PR agent. If you cannot afford your own PR agent, the Republican Party will appoint one for you.

Gente who elect to accept the label "Hispanic" have difficult issues. Do not infuse them with knee-jerk credibility. Folk who toss around "hispanic" as if that means something have made too many compromises on identity and politics.

As a child of a mixed race marriage, I have found that you will never please everyone. You will always be too dark skinned for some and not dark enough for others. We that are the bridges between the races are not always welcome by either side..however we also learn to look within ourselves for the answers and not outside for approval.

and the limp-wristed comment is straight out of 'the governator's' stupid book of remarks - these fools continue to unwind their tightly wound brains only to reveal applesauce
