2. Sure is wonderful to have an adult in the House.
Edited on Thu Jun-04-09 10:52 AM by Why Syzygy
Eight administrations since I starting voting. First adult one. Nice. Hopeful.

oops. Take that back. Carter was one also. Just at the wrong time. Ran over by the religiousright.

5. One thought
I had while listening was that I would not mind seeing some fundies in our country put on trial for treason. They are free to worship as they see fit, but not take over the country. (I noticed what you mentioned as well.)

4. The audience is somewhat muted in response, but it was due to delay in translation
from what I understand. But the excitement, for a possible new chapter in the long saga of the West's long shadow over that region, the excitement is clearly evident.
Go Obama!

7. Wow.......I know these were only words of a speech....but,
wonderful words they were, and full of hope and ideas that can move this world forward together.

What a difference this young man brings to the world stage. I can only shudder when I think of what dubya or mcAncient would have done. It would never have happened in the first place, and if it had, we'd all be shuddering in shame.

God keep this man well for the world to prosper. F*ck the skeptics and the hate mongers that are filled with jealousy and evil.

I am proud to be an American...again, finally! I feel my service to my country was perhaps for a good reason now.

I wonder what they were cheering at the end of his salutation?

9. It sounded like
"U.S.A.! U.S.A.!", which would be remarkable - how often has THAT been heard in that part of the world?
He's becoming the world's president, much as Kennedy did.

12. United States Treaty, approved 1797, signed by Pres. Adams: US "not a Christian nation"
related to the opening quote of the Obama speech, citing John Adams is this treaty language, negotiated under President Washington and signed by President Adams:

"The United States is not a Christian nation any more than it is a Jewish or Mohammedan Nation."

-- Treaty language, Unanimously confirmed by the US Senate in 1797, and signed by President John Adams.

13. Yup. Absolute truth.
A complete non sequitr from what I posted, but absolutely true.

And Adams, for all his faults, was DEAD ON THE MARK with that.

15. Scholarships and university placements for Muslim students
at a time when American children have to borrow money and indenture themselves for many years to go to college. That's a no go.

Talking about cuts to Social Security and Medicare at the same time that there is talk about giving scholarships to Muslim students. No way.

And, last time we encouraged a lot of Muslim students to enter the U.S., it really did not work out very well (to say the least). Obama needs to rethink that part of his speech. I seriously doubt that very many Americans will support him on that one.

We need more scholarships for American students. We are a bankrupt nation. We should not be spending our money on scholarships for Muslim students when our own children and parents are taking severe cuts in incomes and opportunities. This is a no go.
