Dr. Gratzer badmouthed the Canadian HC system during the beginning of the hearing, Kucinich finally called him on the rationing of care in the US.

1. Link to C-Span video of hearing on singlepayer today
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=5823799&mesg_id=5823799

"I strongly recommend this. Please watch it.

I have two comments. One speaker stated that the United States' results son heart and cancer treatments are better than in other countries. That is of course due to the fact that cancer and heart disease rates increase as we age -- and once we are 65, the demographic with the most cancer and heart disease -- we have Medicare (which is a government-run single payer system). I love my Medicare..."

"David Gratzer, a physician, is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. His research interests include consumer-driven health care, Medicare and Medicaid, drug reimportation, and FDA reform. The late Milton Friedman, Nobel Laureate in Economics, wrote that Dr. Gratzer is "a natural-born economist." 26. He never had mine
I thought he looked like a Keebler elf and America was too shallow to vote for him, so I figured, what was the point. In retrospect, fuck it. Him or Nader would of been preferable because they go to bat for you. Someone needs to burn the concept of electibility from selecting leaders (then, everyone becomes electible).

I guess, yes, In a Democracy, you get the government you deserve.

27. It's just the way it is, one person makes a comment and the
suggestion is planted and repeated.

We need to move past appearances.

Unfortunately we get the government that they want us to have, debates are rigged... media guides the issues and the candidates.

9. Duelling statistics.
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 03:54 AM by Fovea
Or rather, statistics versus anecdotes.
I thought in his original presentation the good Dr. was very cagey about presenting actual statistics.
It seemed an amalgam of anecdote and cherry picking.

Dennis pulled out the figures, and made him make whimpering noises.
Dennis is my hero.

12. "The Witness" is your typical greedy, unfeeling, uncaring doctor
I've got a statistic for him: 95% of doctors are like him, more concerned about profits than healing, which is why we have a health care crisis today.

It's not just because of lack of insurance. It's because doctors won't listen to their patients, causing the patients to doctor-hop for months or even years until they find one of those rare doctors who cares enough to listen and help.

I'm not on the side of greedy insurance CEO's, but at the same time, when a patient has to go from doctor to doctor, desperate for help he/she isn't getting, those costs add up. I lost my insurance because of this--these greedy doctors kept having me take the same tests over and over, until my insurance rates got so high that I couldn't afford my premiums anymore.

Want to know the punch line? I didn't even have a serious disease. I was having neurological symptoms from chronic hyperventilation resulting from stress. Any doctor listening to my lungs could have figured it out in a matter of seconds...if they'd wanted to.

Doctors are bilking patients AND insurance companies, so when the insurance companies get bilked, they do what any other business does: Pass it on to the consumer. So we end up getting screwed by both doctors and the insurance companies.

15. When I was working in the student accounts office at Johns Hopkins University in the 70's
lot of kids were coming in to register in the medical fields,
not because they wanted to heal others, but because they
wanted to make money. I remember being shocked at their
attitudes. Now look at the number of these people with this
attitude and we can understand why our health care has not
been preventative, nor vibrant. Science has lost so much time
with this kind of greed paving the way of how we eat, how we
sleep, how we couple, how we dance, or how we don't. And in
the end, these doctors are not having such a good time now
either. I had to do a analysis recently for a health company
to discern if doctors were claiming too many of this code
rather than that code, as if they were potential criminals to
be caught at seeing too many patients of a certain code....
mindless crap.

It doesn't pay to give up the rights and care of others
because in the end we give up our own as well.

13. Dr Rush Limbaugh was unimpressive.
It's ridiculous to think that if the US adopted a single-payer system that any bugs in the system would have to be adopted as well.

We don't have the ability to improve things?

This "Dr" is an idiot an obvious paid shill.

16. Profit Care comes way ahead of Patient Care in America.
I support single payer. I've seen what is deemed, defended and supported as "the acceptable standards of health care" in Tennessee and Virginia. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62 How many more will die because of greed and filthy hospitals passing disease into our communities ?
