6. Not only the "DLCers"
Democrat's slide into it's own oligarchy, it's real problem, didn't start with the DLC. The democrats exist at all because of the DLC. The DLC was a "re-focusing" phase that brought the democrats back from the wilderness of the Reagan worship years. And it did so without a functional "free press". That is no mean feat.

But the charade still goes on. Ultimately, the senate, the "deliberative body", is too prone to disconnection with it's constituency, ivory towered and deaf.

Has anyone answered the obvious questions regarding Paul Wellstone's death? Or about why Franken is still out in the cold? Were/are they so anathematic to the self-sanctioned, self-serving feud across the aisle that they could not be allowed to serve?

5. Nice this was up so soon. He's somewhat wrong about the Kennedy plan -
the CBO evaluated an incomplete plan; more will be insured under that plan. But I still love Maher. (If you haven't seen Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, it's a good camp film).

8. An actual progressive party?
What a novel idea!! Sign me up.
This was so great. Bill always seems to strike a chord in me. I felt a little teary eyed when he suggested we should have an actual progressive party (headed up by Dennis Kucinich?) in this country.

A center right party and a crazy party... so very true!!

I love Obama too, but I agree that he needs to stand up to these corporatist NOW!!

Please. Throw us a bone!

And tx4obama, thanks a jillion for posting these. I don't remember if you are the one who does it every week, but I look forward to getting up on Saturday morning and logging onto DU to watch New Rules.
I'll miss it for the next few weeks.
Stay safe Bill!

15. I cancelled my HBO because i can't afford it thanks to Democrats
Ok, that's not fair. The Democrats can't be blamed for the current economic mess. Did they enable Bushco for 8 years, yes. But they were only part of a nation of enablers.

But if I can't watch Bill Maher anywhere except Youtube 8 years from now, I'm going to blame some of the people in this room. And some of them will be Democrats.

16. Damn! It sure is good to see Maher naming Nader, Chomsky and Kucinich and
Edited on Sat Jun-20-09 04:54 PM by happydreams
He has informed his listeners about the real Left without taking sides. A truly brilliant commentary. Let's hope these, especially Chomsky, gets a chance to debate some neo-liberals. Now wouldn't that be something.

18. Bill Maher, thanks for standing up for progressive politics and calling a spade a spade on Dems
being Republican asshats.

Btw, who receives all of the lobbying money? The people
themselves that are members of the house and senate, or do
those corporate contributions get budgeted for actions to
support their wishes? Or are they passed into the general
funds?

I really need an answer.

Funny how the truth comes out more with these comedy/political shows than it ever does on any cable news channel.

21. The Republicans know what they're doing. They have had a plan for over forty years
Edited on Sat Jun-20-09 08:38 PM by peacetalksforall
and it's obvious that one part of it was to put Republicans in Democratic Senate and House seats and stupid us ... because someone claims they are a Democrat - we believed them.

Funny how it's jumping out at us and the onion is being peeled to reveal the real Dems to us over the last nine years. Saying yes to Dick, Don, and George day after day and kiss all of them with yes's - does jump out at you - thanks to better communication and the severity of their crimes and the good AND awful acting of their enablers and the transparency of their lies and positions. Also thanks that we are waking up. People still can't see the biggest plan, though. It's obvious that we are destined to become serfs - by their design. And our kids our corporation soldiers. Minute by minue it's happening and Clinton did nothing to stop it and everything to advance it.

When you say Kucinich, don't forget Feingold. And remember Wellstone and hope that Franken also remembers his friend, Paul and doesn't listen to his friend Liddy and some others. And let's hope he doesn't vote with Amy Klobuchar when she is gemmed up against us.

23. Watched it And He Was Dead On
I especially loved the end of his rant when he went through his list of what should be happening. shouting yes! at each point.

If the leaders of the party don't shape up and fly right soon, if we get a basically useless watered down health care bill,I would be all for a true progressive party forming and then working to get IRV - because it will then be totally clear that the political system we now have in place is hopelessly broken, really nothing more than front people for corporate greed and power.
